Website Engineer

Department: Creatives

We're the Engineering and Creative Team at Magic.

We get it. You love to build, you love to ship, and you love to see your work make a real difference, fast. We offer an environment where you can do just that. We're not about endless meetings or red tape. We're about empowering talented engineers and web professionals to own projects, move quickly, and deliver results.

We're a Y Combinator (2015) alum with strong venture backing (including Sequoia Capital) and over $30M in funding. We value impact, autonomy, and speed. We operate fully remote.

Website Stack: WordPress, Elementor, Cloudflare, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager.

About Magic

Magic provides thoroughly vetted, cost-effective virtual assistants, to help scale key business functions for small- and medium-sized businesses.

Our company came out of Y Combinator in 2015. We've grown to 1000+ virtual assistants, with strong venture backing (including Sequoia Capital) and over $30M in funding to date. We are fully remote across the world, but require overlap with USA time zones. The average tenure in our engineering team is 3+ years. Once you join, you don't want to leave.

Workplace satisfaction and quality are important to us. We expect you to contribute to mentoring, code reviews, and improvements to our processes and infrastructure. We care about being humble, kind, and helpful. We're looking for team players who own things and get things done.

The Basics
  • Fully remote across Asia, Europe, and US time zones (we have no physical office and are staying 100%. Forever.)
  • Must be available during core hours of 8am–5pm US Eastern Time for real-time collaboration and communication.
  • Strong learning culture and willingness to explore new technologies.
  • Reports to the Head of Engineering and Creative Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Within 2 weeks, you'll:
  • Complete onboarding and get familiar with our website stack and processes.
  • Get to know the team.
  • Begin making small improvements, fixes, and optimizations to existing pages.
Within 1 month, you'll:
  • Own website performance and reliability metrics.
  • Implement tracking improvements and analytics dashboards.
Within 2 months, you'll:
  • Take ownership and lead technical web projects end-to-end.
  • Become the go-to expert on website performance, Cloudflare, and front-end optimization.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required Experience:
  • WordPress site expertise: must be highly proficient in building and maintaining WordPress sites, particularly with Elementor.
  • Cloudflare: experience configuring DNS, CDN, caching rules, and security settings.
  • JavaScript & CSS: strong front-end skills for building and customizing web experiences.
  • Site Reliability: ability to monitor uptime, diagnose issues, and maintain stability.
  • Site Performance Optimization: hands-on experience improving Core Web Vitals, page speed, and load times.
  • Analytics & Tracking: proficiency with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and conversion tracking.
  • Strong design mindset: ability to implement polished, pixel-perfect designs with an eye for UX.

Nice to Have
  • Elementor or a similar page-builder (e.g., Divi, Beaver Builder).
  • PHP: familiarity with theme/plugin customization in WordPress.
  • Experience with A/B testing and CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization).
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices.

To Set Your Expectations, You Should Know That:
  • 100% remote, equipment provided.
  • Work-life balance.
  • Government benefits (if Philippines-based):
  • Medical benefits
  • PTO credits

You Should Apply If…
  • You have excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • You have a passion for staying current with web technologies and best practices.
  • You are a strong individual technical contributor: comfortable owning the website independently while collaborating closely with design and engineering.
  • You are technical-first with design sensibilities: the counterpart to a design-first role.
