This role is four days onsite at our Seneca One Buffalo, NY location, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer to help drive the development of a new Tech 360 Platform. Tech 360 is an enterprise technology platform that provides CIOs and technology leaders with a single, trusted view of performance, risk, cost, delivery, talent, and business value across the organization. It enables data-driven decision making by consolidating fragmented reporting into a unified platform that improves transparency, accountability, and strategic execution. This role will provide technical leadership in designing, developing and delivering scalable solutions for technology reporting.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support enterprise-grade applications using a min one or more programming languages
• Develop and maintain REST APIs, responsive web applications, ETL solutions, and scalable database systems that support business and technology objectives.
• Author organized, clean, efficient, secure, and maintainable source code at an advanced level in one or more programming languages while applying appropriate data structures and algorithms to solve business problems.
• Lead implementation of cloud-native solutions leveraging Kubernetes, containers, and microservices architecture.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting automated testing and deployment.
• Define and implement API and integration strategies across enterprise platforms.
• Partner with architects and security teams to implement authorization and policy-driven access controls.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence, resiliency, and operational best practices.
• Participate in Agile and/or SAFe delivery teams, contributing to planning, estimation, execution, and continuous improvement activities.
• Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
• Promote an environment that supports a culture of belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Required:

• Associate’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 year’s education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ system analysis and/or application development work experience.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Angular and/or modern front-end development experience.
• Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native development experience.
• CI/CD pipeline implementation experience.

• Expert proficiency in a minimum of 1 relevant programming language and professional proficiency in a minimum of 1 additional relevant programming language.
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, application architecture, and SDLC methodologies.

 

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Proven ability to build executive-facing reporting, analytics, or dashboard solutions that transform complex data into actionable insights.
• Strong experience integrating data from multiple sources, including APIs, databases, data warehouses, and cloud platforms.
• Expertise in data visualization and reporting technologies, including Power BI, Tableau, Chart.js, D3.js, or equivalent tools.
• Experience designing scalable application architectures with a focus on performance, security, maintainability, and reliability.
• Proficiency with SQL and data modeling concepts, including dimensional models, KPIs, metrics, and reporting frameworks.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with executives, product owners, business stakeholders, and data teams to translate business objectives into technical solutions.
• Experience building centralized reporting platforms, operational intelligence systems, or executive decision-support applications is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers, driving technical strategy, and establishing engineering standards for large-scale software initiatives.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $116,400.00 - $194,000.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
