The Lyft Urban Solutions (LUS) engineering team in Montreal is growing, and we are looking for an experienced engineering manager to help us. Our engineers are smart, flexible, and capable of solving difficult challenges. They look to their managers for organizational transparency, career development, mentorship, and honest feedback. They move fast and ship code to production continuously, relying on their leadership to increase productivity by removing obstacles and keeping processes lean. Our engineering managers are people with varying technical backgrounds and interests, they provide general technical direction for our teams. Together, we build teams that are inclusive, helpful, and have a strong sense of ownership for the things we create. More specifically, the manager we are looking for has a solid experience leading multiple teams and managers (3 teams, 20 people, 1 manager, 3 staff engineers), and will be taking ownership of our Supply teams (Stations, Rideables and Kiosks).
Responsibilities:
- Manage, mentor and lead a technical team as well as work on personal and technical development of its team members
- Structure and staff the team, aiming to provide growth opportunities to team members and achieve business goals in parallel
- Guide the team to deliver high-quality products and solutions by following best practices
- Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team’s code, architecture, and processes
- Work with your engineers, product owners, and data scientists to create plans and maintain a prioritized backlog of work
- Own your team’s deliverables and ensure shipment of scalable, highly available products that delight our passengers and drivers
- Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members
- Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other
- Work closely with the Lyft recruiting team to hire high potential candidates from diverse backgrounds
- Think ahead and build for the future
Experience:
- You are fluent in English and French, written and spoken
- 7+ years technical experience software engineering management
- You have experience guiding teams through planning, prioritization, and execution of work
- Experience guiding teams through major technology and organizational transformations, a plus
- Ability to communicate effectively in various forms, e.g. technical documents, discussions, presentation

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid
