Job Responsibilities:

The role will include the following elements, balanced according to the evolving needs of the organization and the aptitudes of the mechanical design engineer:

  • Apply a solid knowledge of mechanical engineering and manufacturing principles to develop new solutions and to evaluate the merits and risks of alternative design concepts.
  • Perform the detailed mechanical design of automated machine, hardware development, electrical connection diagram, programing/coding for low to high scale production environment.
  • Apply FEA and CFD analysis tools to predict stress states due to thermal and mechanical influences, dynamic behavior of structures and electronics cooling performance.
  • Apply 3D mechanical CAD tools to develop fully mechanical documented detailed.
  • Apply the Lumentum mechanical engineering design process to compile design requirements, evaluate conceptual designs, deliver detail design documentation and confirm performance of realized designs as well as project management.
  • Participate as a positive team member, working effectively with colleagues to ensure that design decisions which span multiple disciplines are balanced and optimized for the overall performance of the product.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external partners/stakeholders.

 

 Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree program or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.

· Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical control, sensors, robotic system and industrial automation.


 Required Knowledges and skills:

· Specialized training in robotics, machine vision, controls and automation. Professional training or certification from a robot manufacturer is preferred. The candidate should be able to;

    • Understand robot coordinate systems, TCP, work objects, payload, reach, singularity, and robot accuracy.
    • Perform basic forward and inverse kinematics calculations.
    • Create robot programs and teach positions safely.
    • Design and verify robot end-of-arm tooling.
    • Select grippers, vacuum systems, sensors, actuators, and safety devices.
    • Integrate robots with PLCs, HMIs, cameras, and factory communication networks.
    • Understand digital I/O, analog I/O, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, or equivalent protocols.
    • Perform robot-to-camera calibration and coordinate transformation.
    • Analyze robot repeatability, process capability, and positioning errors.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, software, and communication problems.

· Knowledge of the fundamentals of the mechanical engineering curriculum including thermodynamics, heat transfer, solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, dynamics, material science and machine design.

· Knowledge of mechanical hardware, pneumatic hardware, electrical components and basic electrical circuitry.

· Knowledge of and ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) practices as well as tolerance analysis.

· Knowledge of and ability to design automation machines and automated systems.

· Proficiency in the use of a 2D/3D solid modeling mechanical CAD tools; SolidEdge or Solidworks

· Knowledge of and experience in supplier capability assessment audit.

· Knowledge of and ability to apply lean manufacturing principles.

· Well understand of telecommunication and optical communication system.

Required Professional Experiences

· [Least Required] At least 5 years in Research & Development working environment and experience in full scale of product and/or machine development.

· [Least Required] 3 – 5 years of experience in industrial robotics, automation, machine design, or system integration.

· [Least Required] Experience with at least one industrial robot or collaborative robot.

· [Least Required] Experience with robot programming, teaching, calibration, and troubleshooting.

· [Least Required] Experience integrating robots with sensors, tooling, conveyors, PLCs and/or vision systems.

· [Preferred] Experience with pick-and-place, assembly, insertion, dispensing, palletizing, or inspection applications.

· [Preferred] Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, and production ramp-up.

· [Preferred] Experience working with suppliers or turnkey machine builders.

· [Preferred] Experience with industrial cameras, lenses, lighting, and image-processing software such as Matrox, Cognex, Keyence, HALCON, or equivalent.

· [Preferred] Understanding of calibration, pixel resolution, field of view, distortion, depth of field, and lighting control

· [Preferred] Experience with OCR, pattern recognition, measurement, defect detection, or object-location applications

· [Preferred] Ability to convert camera coordinates into robot coordinates

· [Preferred] Excellent speaking, listening and written in English communication skills
