Job Summary**

Lumentum Operations LLC is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of complex mechanical systems for our cutting-edge optical products. This role involves driving advanced mechanical engineering solutions from concept to production, ensuring robust performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Job Responsibilities**

* Lead the mechanical design and analysis of opto-mechanical assemblies, modules, and systems for new product introduction and existing product enhancements.
* Conduct advanced engineering analysis, including FEA (stress, thermal, vibration), CFD, and tolerance analysis, to ensure design integrity and performance.
* Develop detailed mechanical specifications, design documentation, and test plans.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including optical engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and program managers to define requirements, integrate designs, and troubleshoot issues.
* Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the mechanical engineering team.
* Drive the selection and qualification of materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
* Identify and implement innovative mechanical solutions to improve product performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
* Oversee design validation and verification activities, including prototype testing and failure analysis.
* Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and optical systems.

Job Qualifications**

* Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Ph.D. preferred.
* 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably within the optical, semiconductor, or high-tech manufacturing industries.
* Expert proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and PDM/PLM systems.
* Demonstrated expertise in advanced FEA and CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS, FLOTHERM).
* Strong understanding of material science, heat transfer, vibrations, and precision mechanical design principles.
* Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for reliability (DFR).
* Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor engineering teams.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
* Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
* Experience with optical alignment and packaging techniques is a significant advantage.
