Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Build: Develop clean, testable, and efficient Java (Java 11+/17) code for microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Cloud & Infra: Build, deploy, and operate services on AWS (ECS/EKS/Lambda, API Gateway/ALB, S3, RDS/DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch).
  • CI/CD: Own build and deployment pipelines (GitLab CI/GitHub Actions/Jenkins), versioning, and artifact management.
  • Quality: Write unit/integration tests (JUnit/Mockito/Testcontainers); maintain code quality via linters and code reviews.
  • Observability: Implement logging, metrics, and tracing (CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, ELK).
  • Security & Compliance: Apply secure coding, manage secrets (AWS Secrets Manager/SSM), and least-privilege IAM.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Product, QA, DevOps/SRE to deliver features end-to-end.

 

Must-Have Skills

  • Programming: Java 11+ (core, collections, concurrency), OOP, design patterns, functional constructs, Streams.
  • Frameworks: Spring Boot, Spring Web/MVC, Spring Data/JPA; familiarity with Hibernate.
  • APIs & Protocols: REST, JSON; hands-on with API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger).
  • Datastores: RDBMS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and at least one NoSQL (DynamoDB/Redis); SQL proficiency.
  • AWS Essentials:
    • Compute: ECS/EKS or Lambda
    • Networking: VPC, subnets, SGs, IAM basics
    • Integration: SQS/SNS, API Gateway/ALB
    • Storage/DB: S3, RDS or DynamoDB
    • Ops: CloudWatch/CloudTrail
  • Build & CI/CD: Maven/Gradle; pipelines in GitLab CI/GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
  • Containers: Docker fundamentals; familiarity with containerizing Java apps.
  • Testing: JUnit, Mockito; understanding of test pyramid and code coverage.
  • Version Control: Git workflows (feature branches, PRs/MRs, trunk or GitFlow)

 

Good-to-Have (Preferred)

  • Kubernetes (EKS), ECS
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Caching: Redis/ElastiCache and cache-aside patterns

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 2–5 years of professional experience building backend services with Java and AWS.
  • Demonstrated ownership of features from design to production support.
