Job Title: Enterprise Power BI Reporting Intern
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Manager, Data & Technical Integration
GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:
The Enterprise Power BI Reporting Intern supports the Enterprise Data & Analytics team in developing, enhancing, and administering enterprise reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI. This position provides hands-on experience in business intelligence, report development, semantic modeling, reporting governance, and Power BI administration while contributing to real enterprise initiatives.
Working alongside data engineers, business analysts, and report developers, the intern will assist in the development of an enterprise Power BI application and help establish the standards that support Loram's modern reporting platform. The role offers exposure to enterprise data architecture, business intelligence best practices, and modern analytics technologies while building practical skills that prepare the student for a career in analytics, business intelligence, or application development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Develop Power BI reports, dashboards, and applications that support enterprise reporting needs.
- Assist in the design, testing, deployment, and maintenance of Power BI reporting solutions.
- Support the development and documentation of semantic models, datasets, business metrics, and DAX measures.
- Assist in developing reporting governance practices, including report certification, semantic model standards, security, and lifecycle management.
- Support Power BI administration activities, including workspace management, report deployment, dataset refreshes, and environment organization.
- Validate report accuracy through testing and data reconciliation.
- Work with business users to gather requirements, test solutions, and support report enhancements.
- Create technical and end-user documentation to support reporting standards and governance.
- Learn and apply enterprise data management, reporting, and business intelligence best practices while contributing to strategic analytics initiatives.
INTERNSHIP PROJECT:
The intern will participate in the development of an enterprise Power BI application while helping establish the foundation for Loram's enterprise reporting platform.
Project activities may include:
- Developing dashboards and interactive reports.
- Designing report navigation and user experiences.
- Assisting with semantic model development and documentation.
- Supporting report testing and validation.
- Organizing Power BI workspaces and reporting assets.
- Creating documentation for reporting standards and governance.
- Assisting with report deployment and lifecycle management.
- Participating in demonstrations and gathering business feedback.
Qualifications
Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Software or Application Development, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience:
- Junior or Senior standing with an expected graduation date within two years.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI.
- Basic understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn enterprise reporting, analytics, and business intelligence technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) certification or actively preparing for certification.
- Coursework or project experience in Power BI report development and data visualization.
- Experience with DAX, Power Query, or data modeling concepts.
- Familiarity with data warehousing, semantic models, or business intelligence principles.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric is a plus.
- Knowledge of source control or software development practices.
- Experience developing class, personal, or internship projects using Power BI or SQL.

Compensation:
Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.
