Software Engineer – HIL Simulator

Lilium is on the lookout for an exceptional Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Engineer to join our vibrant team and help us with the development of the cutting-edge Test Rigs and flight simulators!

At Lilium you will find a passionate group of innovators who are aiming to revolutionize the aerospace industry as we know it, introducing new concepts and technologies to support the development and certification of an astonishing electrical Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft: the Lilium Jet! And as you can imagine, all these new technologies, new components and advanced systems require to be tested in a laboratory before flying the sky: that is exactly why we need your help and expertise! To develop and maintain HIL Test Rigs and also to support their integration with Flight Simulators!

Your Day to Day:

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced HIL systems fintegrated with flight simulators.

Develop and maintain C++ and Python software solutions, enable real aircraft units to communicate according to the required aircraft protocols (ARINC-429, Ethernet, CAN, etc..)

  • Support the electrical design of boards and wiring harnesses for HIL setups.
  • Integrate real-time simulation hardware with aircraft components for accurate lab representation.
  • Troubleshoot and debug Test Rigs and flight simulators, resolving potential issues.

Your Profile:

  • A minimum of 5 years in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) development or flight simulators.
  • Proficient with simulation tools, both hardware and software, with mandatory experience in Simulink. Familiarity with Simulink Real Time and Speedgoat hardware is highly desirable.
  • Highly skilled software developer for C++  (C++11 or higher) and Python, experienced in debugging and profiling and with a good understanding of object-oriented programming and a focus on performance and reliability .
  • Experience with the Qt framework (both C++ & Python) is a plus
  • Strong electrical and electronic skills is an advantage and basic design experience with wiring harnesses.
  • Knowledgeable in digital communication protocols (e.g., CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, UART, ARINC-429, ARINC-825, Time-Triggered Ethernet).
  • Experience with aerospace systems (flight control, avionics, propulsion, energy systems) is a strong plus. Alternatively, EV experience is also relevant
