The Role:

The Senior Airworthiness Engineer for Software Development Assurance is a critical part of the Office of Airworthiness, where you will provide the independent verification function as part of Lilium’s EASA Design Organisation and design assurance system. Your expertise as a subject matter expert within the technical field of Software Development Assurance will enable the development and type certification of this new type of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, introducing new and novel technologies.

You will report into the Manager of Development Assurance as part of the Office of Airworthiness and work closely with all our Engineering and Certification Teams. Your contribution will be key for the development of Lilium’s ground-breaking aircraft.

Interested candidates should possess a software engineering or computing degree, and/or a substantial experience within industry and ideally currently hold a Compliance Verification Engineer authorisation with a similar scope of approval, within an EASA Design Organisation.

The successful applicant will be a decision maker and possess strong influencing skills to ensure the aircraft is developed to meet the agreed certification basis, encompassing stringent airworthiness, safety and quality requirements.

 Your Day to Day:

  • Provide Independent Compliance Verification as a certification subject matter expert within the following areas:
    • Software (SW)
  • Assist in the definition and maturing of the Type Certification Basis for new Type Certificates and Changes to Type Certificate
  • You will follow the SW development, embedded in the Lilium aircraft, for ensuring it meets the certification requirements in accordance with DO-178C. This will be performed in close collaboration with Airworthiness Engineers and the Engineering Departments.
  • Interaction with Lilium SW suppliers with relevant SW development monitoring and required documents deliveries.
  • Interaction with authorities, with periodic meetings and authority stages of involvement (SOI), for defining the certification strategy and the appropriate Means of Compliance.
  • Perform SW Development Assurance monitoring in accordance with DO-178C including dry-runs of the SW SOIs.
  • You report certification risks and potential mitigations to the Head of Airworthiness
  • You formally verify compliance for meeting the objectives of DO-178C.
  • Leading or overseeing other members of the Engineering and Certification Teams as requested.
  • Working with rulemaking associations including EuroCAE, ASTM, GAMA, SAE

 

 

 Your Profile

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the type-certification process within Aerospace.
  • Knowledge and experience with the development of complex aircraft and systems in accordance with SAE ARP 4754A / 4761 and familiarity with DO178B/C and DO254.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in aerospace development projects with involvement in software certification activities, if already as a nominated CVE is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in Planning, Requirements, Design, code (C and C++) and testing (incl. structural Coverage Analysis) of embedded software development in accordance with DO-178C.
  • Knowledge of certification processes (Part 21) and requirements under EASA CS’ is an advantage.
  • Experience in supporting SW certification and SW SOIs (1 to 4)
  • Experience in DO-330, DO-331, DO -332 and DO-333, RTOS, Multithread and MBD software.
  • Ability to support occasional national and international travel at short notice.
  • Fluency in English with good communication skills, German would be an advantage.
