Role Overview

We are looking for a Game Design Intern with a strong interest in Technical Game Design to join our growing design team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the creative and technical aspects of game development and is eager to learn how gameplay systems are designed, implemented, and balanced.
As an intern, you will work closely with game designers, programmers, and other disciplines to support the development of gameplay features, systems, and tools. You will gain hands-on experience with Unreal Engine, scripting, prototyping, and data-driven design while contributing to a live AAA development environment.

Key Responsibilities

Gameplay & Systems Design:
  • Assist in designing, documenting, and balancing gameplay systems, mechanics, and player progression features.
  • Support the creation of game design documentation, feature specifications, and implementation guides.
Technical Prototyping:
  • Create and iterate on gameplay prototypes using Unreal Engine Blueprints or similar visual scripting tools.
  • Work with designers and engineers to test and validate gameplay concepts.
Data & Balancing Support:
  • Help maintain gameplay data, tuning values, and balancing spreadsheets.
  • Analyze gameplay feedback and contribute to improving player experience.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with programmers, artists, and designers to ensure features are implemented according to design goals.
  • Participate in playtests and provide feedback on gameplay systems and mechanics.
Research & Documentation:
  • Conduct competitive analysis and research on game mechanics, systems, and industry trends.
  • Create clear and concise documentation to support feature development.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Game Design, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Interactive Media, or a related field.
Technical Skills:
  • Basic understanding of game design principles, gameplay systems, and player psychology.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine Blueprints, Unity scripting, or other game development tools.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting, programming concepts, or logic-based systems.
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets and game balancing data.
Design Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to break down gameplay mechanics and understand how systems interact.
  • Good written communication and documentation skills.

Bonus Points

  • Experience creating personal game projects, mods, game jams, or prototypes.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine, Blueprint scripting, or visual scripting tools.
  • Understanding of system design concepts such as progression, economies, combat systems, or AI behaviors.
  • Basic knowledge of C++, C#, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Passion for AAA games and game development.
