Animation Programmer
Department: Engineering
Experience: 4-7
LightFury Games is looking for an experienced Game Animation Programmer to bridge the gap between Gameplay Programming and Character Animation. This role requires strong expertise in C++, deep knowledge of Unreal Engine, and hands-on experience implementing animation systems that directly impact gameplay feel, responsiveness, and player experience.
The ideal candidate should have worked on complex gameplay features, character movement systems, and animation frameworks in commercial game projects. Experience working on AAA titles is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement gameplay-driven animation systems for player and AI characters.
- Develop and maintain animation frameworks, state machines, locomotion systems, and procedural animation features.
- Collaborate closely with Gameplay Programmers, Animators, Designers, and Technical Artists to create responsive and immersive gameplay experiences.
- Implement and optimize systems such as:
- Animation Blueprints
- Blend Spaces
- State Machines
- Root Motion
- Inverse Kinematics (IK)
- Motion Warping
- Procedural Animation
- Build gameplay mechanics that are tightly integrated with animation systems.
- Develop and improve character movement, traversal, combat, and interaction systems.
- Optimize animation performance for multiple platforms.
- Debug and resolve complex gameplay-animation integration issues.
- Contribute to core gameplay architecture and technical decision-making.
Required Skills
- Experience of gameplay programming 5-8 Years.
- Strong professional experience in C++ programming.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Unreal Engine.
- Strong understanding of Gameplay Programming principles.
- Experience developing character controllers, movement systems, and gameplay mechanics.
- Deep understanding of:
- Animation Systems
- Animation Blueprints
- Blend Trees / Blend Spaces
- State Machines
- IK Systems
- Root Motion
- Motion Matching
- Procedural Animation
- Strong debugging, optimization, and performance profiling skills.
- Good understanding of mathematics related to game animation and movement systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on AAA Console, PC, or High-End Mobile Games.
- Experience shipping one or more commercial game titles.
- Exposure to advanced character locomotion and combat systems.
- Experience working closely with animation and gameplay teams.
- Understanding of multiplayer gameplay systems is a plus.
- Passion for building polished and responsive player experiences.
