Leidos has an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC). In this position the engineer will work on sustaining tasks for CMC hardware and support projects involving the development and certification of spaceflight hardware in support of NASA's International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Human Landing System (HLS), Commercial Programs, and Gateway Programs. The engineer will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, researching, developing, pre-flight processing, and managing inventory for both flight and non-flight hardware items. The role requires working with commercial software such as IBM Maximo, Microsoft Office Suite, and MS SharePoint, as well as CMC custom software. Support for tests and other activities may be required outside of regular working hours.

Per the contract, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency is required. Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform Sustaining Engineering (SE) functions for the applicable hardware system.
  • Perform pre-flight processing, assembly, delivery, and proper storage of hardware.
  • Support the early/on-time delivery of flight and non-flight hardware in accordance with Manifest Request (MRs) and Request for Support (RFSs).
  • Manage Requests for Support (RFS) and Manifest Requests (MR), and handle authoring and monitoring of work orders, purchase requests, job plans, non-conformance reports, internal and external customer presentations, designs, and trade studies.
  • Perform analytical integration and physical processing activities to support pressurized cargo requirements.
  • Provide technical engineering support and perform steps via work authorizing documents.
  • Identify, investigate, resolve, and document flight and ground hardware anomalies.
  • Monitor inventory levels, tool calibration, and part obsolescence.
  • Read, interpret, and develop engineering drawings to fabricate flight hardware.
  • Manage and support multiple requests and projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment with stringent deadlines.
  • Support hardware development projects to certify, flight-configure, and deliver new hardware for spaceflight.
  • Develop new hardware, modify, or recertify existing hardware or Commercial-off-the Shelf (COTS) hardware to the applicable environment (as needed).
  • Develop basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for new work.
  • Represent the Sustaining Engineering department at CMC as a subject matter expert per applicable hardware subsystem hardware groups in both internal and external customer meetings.
  • Interface and coordinate effectively with subcontractors, customers, and team members to ensure seamless project execution and collaboration.
  • Document and present project and routine work status in business rhythm forums on a weekly, bi-weekly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual basis.
  • Present ongoing and completed work to internal management boards and external customers; provide timely and effective communication regarding status and needs.
  • Present briefing material, data, analyses, and technical input for status and to support decision making at the various NASA Program reviews, control boards, panels, forums, working groups, and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), including but not limited to International Space Station, Orion, Gateway, Human Landing System programs.
  • Maintain and uphold the highest standards of quality across all services and processes.
  • Develop and document streamlined and efficient workflows in process documents to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Responsible for maintaining all training and certifications required to perform in role.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science field.
  • Experience using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Organized, proactive, and communicates clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience or proficiency in electrical engineering, including circuit design, troubleshooting, and system integration for spaceflight hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability in interpreting and applying requirements.
  • Experience working with multi-discipline teams and customers.
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of the CMC sustained tools and frequently used NASA tools (Maximo, EDCC/JEDII, EDMS, CDS, MIDAS Prime).

Pay Range:

Pay Range $50,050.00 - $90,475.00
