Mechanical Engineer I

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer I to join our Custom Development team in Chicago, IL! This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of Focal Point’s engineering team, developing and supporting world-class luminaire designs. This position will lead the development of luminaires from concept to production, including prototyping, validation and regulatory testing, collaboration with manufacturing, and ordering system setup. Project management and organizational skills will be honed working on large scale projects with cross-functional teams to deliver on timeline and cost targets. This position reports to the Custom Engineering Development Leader.

This role focuses on supporting the development of custom architectural lighting products from concept through production, including design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing collaboration, and project implementation. The position requires leading multiple projects, solving technical challenges, managing timelines and deliverables, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet customer requirements and business objectives. Ideal candidates have a mechanical engineering background, strong analytical and organizational skills, experience with 3D CAD tools and GD&T, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The work emphasizes innovation, hands-on product development, customer focus, and continuous collaboration to deliver high-quality lighting solutions.
