CNC G-code M-code
Description

Manual & CNC Machinist

Location: Maryville, Tennessee, United States

Workplace: on_site

Description

Overview:

We’re looking for a skilled Manual & CNC Machinist who takes genuine pride in their work, owns their craft, and thrives in a precision-driven environment. This role requires strong manual machining fundamentals and the ability to set up, operate, and perform in-console G/M-code edits on CNC vertical mills. You'll work across platforms, taking parts from print to finished product with a high degree of independence.

You'll join a respected local manufacturer with more than 40 years of industry leadership. As a smaller, close-knit company, we something unique: you’ll personally know the people you work with, see the impact of your craftsmanship every day, and contribute directly to products used in some of the world’s most demanding applications, including steel mills, submarines, power generation, and other heavy industrial environments.

This 2nd shift role is designed for autonomous, high-ownership machinists who want the responsibility of running their work with confidence. If you want to grow your skills, see the results of your work, and be part of a company that invests in people, this is the role for you.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 2nd shift: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Training on 1st Shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm
  • Some Saturday shifts may be required.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup and Operation: Set up and operate manual lathes and mills (Monarch, LeBlond, vertical turret lathes, etc.) as well as CNC vertical mills (Haas, Honor, or similar), ensuring proper tooling, workholding, and part alignment.
  • Precision Machining: Machine components to tight tolerances — as tight as +/– 0.0005 inches — adjusting feeds, speeds, and tooling based on material requirements and part specifications.
  • CNC Programming & Edits: Perform in-console G/M-code edits, set offsets, verify toolpaths, and make simple programs from scratch when needed to ensure accuracy and repeatability.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, prints, specifications, and GD&T to plan machining sequences and select appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Inspection & Quality Control: Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision tools to ensure adherence to specifications and high-quality workmanship.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve machining issues, make adjustments during setup or production, and collaborate with engineering when specialized solutions are required.
  • Process Optimization: Work with production and engineering teams to improve workflows, reduce downtime, enhance tooling strategies, and strengthen machining consistency across manual and CNC operations.
  • Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment following 6S principles and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility in a Job Shop: Transition between manual and CNC tasks efficiently in a high-mix, low-volume production setting, taking ownership of work from setup through final inspection.

  • 5+ years of machining experience
  • Proven experience as a Manual Machinist
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC mills
