About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to join our Platform team, owning the employee experience across everything Kota offers: workplace pensions and retirement savings, health insurance, life assurance, income protection and custom benefits, and our spend product. It's a mobile-first role, your strongest expertise will be mobile, but you'll work in the frontend more broadly when the product needs it.

Platform is Kota's product for offering employees a range of benefits. Pension infrastructure is genuinely complex: multi-provider, multi-market and largely unmodernised, spanning contributions, fund data, payroll integrations and compliance. Coverage spans health insurance, life assurance, income protection and custom benefits, giving employers flexible ways to look after their people. Spend lets employers issue cards and allowances to employees via a virtual Stripe card added to Apple or Google Wallet, cutting across both.

As the engineer owning the employee experience, you'll be the one tying it all together: making sure pensions, coverage and spend feel like one coherent product to the employees using them, not a set of disconnected systems. We want someone who starts with the customer, not the code, and proactively adds to the roadmap rather than just picking up tickets. This is an autonomous role, you'll be trusted to make product calls, not just technical ones.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain top-tier mobile applications using React Native.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to shape user-centric mobile UX/UI.

• Optimise performance, ensure cross-platform consistency, and resolve mobile-specific issues.

• Mentor team members on best practices around React Native, mobile UX patterns, and code quality.

• Contribute to technical architecture and mobile-specific decision-making.

• Share your enthusiasm: demo side projects or apps you’ve built and love!

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years building mobile or web apps, with hands-on production experience in React Native.

• A sharp eye for mobile UX, animations, and performance.

• Bonus: experience with web frameworks like Remix.js or React Router.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills across product, design, and backend.

• Pragmatic engineering approach - prioritising what matters most to users and the product.

• Self-starter mindset: comfortable working in smaller or startup-like teams.

• Storytelling through code: bring examples of shipped projects or mobile side apps you’re proud of.
