(Senior) Lead Engineer, Drives/Power Electronics to lead technology development of elevator drives

We are now looking for a

(Senior) Lead Engineer, Drives/Power Electronics to lead technology development of elevator drives

KONE’s biggest R&D globally is in Hyvinkää, Finland. We offer flexible working time, remote working opportunities and we also support commuting to work. You will be part of the team in Hyvinkää, Finland. Depending on the phase of the work and tasks, it is possible to work remotely 1-2 days a week.

Machinery and Drives teams in KTI that are close to your position are responsible for, simply, to create the motion of the elevator. One might think that electric motors and drives are quite mature technologies, but there are many global trends such as electric vehicles driving technical changes outside elevator industry.

At KONE, we have teams which are capable of designing both drives and electric machines fully independently and this we are also doing for most of our elevators.

Today we are working on areas such as designing next generation machines and drives to both low and high-rise elevators and creating new IoT connectivity solutions to enable customer features and faster support. We are also finding new opportunities to use our embedded software to enable new innovations like automated elevator commissioning.

Our key collaboration happens with elevator control system, hoisting and platform teams as well as with installation, maintenance, procurement and quality.

Customer value is in the core and we have been organizing our teams respectively. R&D development work has been organized in independent, empowered Lean and Agile product teams responsible for both developing defined customer value and operating their products over the whole lifetime.

In order to be successful in this role

-You have B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree or equal knowledge in drives or power electronic systems

-You have a proven track record of being involved in complex projects including control electronics, power electronics and embedded software. We expect you have hands-on experience with AC drives and some experience on working with standards

-You have knowledge of latest developments in power electronics including semiconductor technologies and PCBA design as well as related testing and validation

-You master application modeling and can evaluate the impact of different use cycles for end product performance. Knowledge of latest developments in power electronics including semiconductor technologies, system integration and PCBA design as well as related testing and validation are expected

-Experience in the areas of DSP and FPGA based hardware and software, functional safety, remote maintenance and connectivity with IoT and cloud systems are considered to be assets

-You are eager to learn new things every day and are driven to master drive technology by working closely with and guiding other subject matter experts towards the next generation of energy efficient, smart elevator drives

-Our working language is English, other language skills are an asset

Additional requirements if applying as a senior for the position:

We expect a senior to also have human leadership skills and capability to lead technical teams in daily level and enjoying working with diversified people with different backgrounds. You should also be willing to put yourselves and your team into the game. You can build trust and respect between team and stakeholders and drive continuous learning and open communication culture. Experience of work using agile methods is an asset.
