Lead Engineer, Mechanics - Products Installation Proficiency

R&D unit in KTI is responsible for developing digital services at KONE. It’s the development engine for our Digital Services such as KONE 24/7 Connected Services, Office Flow and Partnership Ecosystem.

KONE is developing novel, automation systems, devices and methods to increase productivity and quality of elevator installations. These systems apply automation and robotics technologies and include tailor made mechanics, controls systems and metrology applications.

We are looking for a highly skilled and proactive Lead Engineer, Mechanics to join our team in Hyvinkää, Finland. There’s possibility to work remotely couple of days a week.

 In this role, you will be ensuring the fit for function of mechatronic systems over their lifecycle, this includes both mechanic as mechatronics design updates as well as making sure requirements are up to date, supporting frontlines and sales organizations with product-related inquiries, and driving new ideas from concept to implementation.

You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including suppliers, production, and R&D—to ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, cost, and delivery timelines.

Key Responsibilities

-Mechanical Design & Updates: Create, maintain, and improve mechanical and mechatronics designs and product documentation using CAD software

-Product Lifecycle Management (PLM): Oversee the full lifecycle of product updates, from initial concept to final release, ensuring alignment with project targets (schedules, engineering hours, costs, and quality)

-Product Data Management (PDM): Utilize and update PDM systems to manage engineering data and models; experience with KTOC is considered an asset

-Collaboration & Communication: Partner with frontlines, sales, and procurement teams to address product-related inquiries, orders, and supplier relationships

-Manufacturing & Quality: Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials to ensure design feasibility and oversee tool stock shipping and quality checks

-Cost Management: Understand and apply product cost management (PCM) principles to optimize designs without compromising quality

-Data Analytics: Work with data tools to gather insights, drive improvements, and support decision-making

-Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement innovative solutions, leveraging strong problem-solving skills to develop new ideas with the frontlines

What we’re looking for

-Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

-Proven experience (3+ years) in mechanical design, product updates, or a similar role

-Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. Creo, or similar) and familiarity with PLM/PDM systems

-Systems thinking capabilities and understanding

-Mechanical design and engineering skills, including problem-solving and analytical thinking

-Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to support sales and frontline teams effectively

-Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and supplier relationship management

-Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and ensure project milestones are met

-Experience with data analytics tools and methodologies is a plus
