Role Purpose

The Lead CSA Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, coordination, technical oversight, and successful delivery of all Civil, Structural, and Architectural (CSA) engineering activities on assigned projects. Acting as the lead CSA engineering authority, the role ensures engineering solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with design intent, statutory requirements, project specifications, programme objectives, and company standards.

The Lead CSA Project Engineer manages design coordination, technical assurance, procurement support, construction engineering, quality control, risk management, and project handover, while providing leadership and guidance to the wider CSA engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Engineering Management

  • Lead and manage all CSA engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain the CSA Engineering Management Plan and delivery programme.
  • Coordinate engineering resources, priorities, deliverables, and approvals.
  • Act as the primary CSA interface for clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Identify and escalate technical, commercial, programme, and resource risks.

Design Management & Technical Assurance

  • Oversee the review, coordination, and approval of CSA designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, and BIM models.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements, regulations, project standards, and constructability requirements.
  • Manage design reviews, technical queries, design changes, and approval processes.
  • Coordinate CSA interfaces with MEP, BIM, temporary works, logistics, and construction teams.

Health, Safety & Risk Management

  • Promote safe-by-design principles and ensure compliance with project EHS requirements.
  • Lead design risk assessments, constructability reviews, and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure residual risks are identified, communicated, and appropriately managed.
  • Support investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Procurement & Construction Support

  • Support procurement activities through preparation and review of technical packages and subcontractor submissions.
  • Provide engineering leadership during construction, resolving technical issues and coordinating design changes.
  • Review material submissions, value engineering proposals, and specialist contractor designs.
  • Ensure construction teams have access to current, coordinated, and approved engineering information.

Quality, Handover & Project Controls

  • Oversee quality assurance processes, inspections, testing, and compliance activities.
  • Monitor engineering deliverables, programme performance, risks, and change management.
  • Ensure accurate as-built documentation, O&M manuals, certifications, and handover records.
  • Support commercial assessments, progress reporting, client engagement, and project close-out activities.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Senior, Project, and Graduate CSA Engineers.
  • Allocate responsibilities in line with competency and project requirements.
  • Promote engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Support succession planning, training, and achievement of professional accreditation goals.

Authority & Governance

  • Approve and coordinate engineering activities within delegated authority limits.
  • Ensure all engineering decisions align with statutory requirements, client specifications, and company standards.
  • Escalate significant technical, programme, commercial, or governance issues when required.
  • Maintain robust engineering records, controls, and reporting mechanisms throughout the project lifecycle.
