Mechanical Engineer, MEP

Location: Orlando, FL, US

Employment Type: FULL_TIME

Overview

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Orlando, FL (Florida) office! This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design of HVAC and mechanical systems from concept through construction across commercial, hospitality, municipal, and federal projects
  • Prepare and coordinate load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork/piping layouts, and technical specifications
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, AHJs, and internal MEP disciplines
  • Manage portions of projects as a task manager or project manager, including scope, schedule, and budget
  • Serve as a primary client contact for portions of projects and support overall client relationship management
  • Oversee and mentor EITs, designers, and technical staff
  • Support and participate in RFQs/RFPs, proposals, and business development efforts
  • Ensure design quality through QA/QC processes and adherence to applicable codes (FBC, energy compliance, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience with increasing project leadership responsibility
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Familiarity with Florida codes and local AHJ coordination
  • Experience with:
    • HVAC systems (airside, hydronic, ventilation, controls coordination)
    • Plumbing systems (water, sanitary, gas)
    • Energy compliance tools (e.g., COMcheck or similar)
  • Proficiency in Revit/BIM-based design
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 7+ years of experience with increasing project leadership responsibility
    • Experience managing projects and directly interfacing with clients
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and contribute to winning work
