 Job Title: Lead Instrumentation and Control Engineer - Greenfield

KBR Abu Dhabi PMC Team is currently seeking experienced professionals for the position listed below in support of a major Offshore Project. The role will be based at either the Client's Office or the Contractor's Office in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Job Purpose

Lead and manage all Instrumentation, Control, Automation, Telecom, and Safety System engineering activities for ADNOC Offshore greenfield and brownfield projects. Ensure designs comply with ADNOC Offshore standards, international codes, project specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, and project schedules throughout FEED, Detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, and Start-up phases.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead Instrument & Control engineering team during FEED, EPC, and execution phases.
  • Plan, coordinate, and review all Instrumentation and Control engineering deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC Offshore Engineering Standards, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & Structural, Telecom, and HSE disciplines.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to senior engineers, engineers, and designers.
  • Monitor engineering progress, resource allocation, and budget requirements.

Instrumentation Engineering

  • Develop and review:
    • Instrument Index
    • Instrument Datasheets
    • I/O Lists
    • Hook-up Drawings
    • Cable Schedules
    • Instrument Installation Details
    • Instrument Location Plans
    • Wiring Diagrams
    • Loop Diagrams
  • Review instrument selection for hazardous offshore environments.
  • Ensure proper selection of field instruments, including:
    • Pressure Transmitters
    • Temperature Instruments
    • Flow Meters
    • Level Instruments
    • Analyzers
    • Control Valves
    • On-Off Valves
    • Safety Devices

Control Systems Engineering

  • Lead engineering activities related to:
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
    • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD)
    • Fire & Gas Systems (FGS)
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
    • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
    • Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS)
  • Review Cause & Effect Matrices and Shutdown Philosophies.
  • Ensure interfaces among DCS, ESD, FGS, Package Systems, and Third-Party Vendor Systems.
  • Participate in control system architecture reviews and cybersecurity assessments.

Functional Safety & Process Safety

  • Participate in:
    • HAZID
    • HAZOP
    • SIL Studies
    • LOPA Workshops
    • Constructability Reviews
    • Design Reviews
  • Support Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) allocation and SIL verification.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 requirements.
  • Review Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS).

Telecom & Interface Engineering

  • Coordinate with Telecom Engineers for offshore communication systems including:
    • PA/GA Systems
    • Telephone Systems
    • Radio Systems
    • CCTV
    • LAN/WAN Networks
    • Fiber Optic Networks
  • Ensure seamless integration between telecom and control systems.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Prepare and review technical requisitions for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations and vendor assessments.
  • Review vendor documents and drawings.
  • Resolve technical queries and deviations from suppliers and contractors.
  • Participate in vendor FAT activities.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide technical support during construction and offshore installation.
  • Review construction queries and field modifications.
  • Support:
    • FAT
    • IFAT
    • SAT
    • Loop Checks
    • Pre-commissioning
    • Commissioning
    • Start-up Activities
  • Witness system acceptance testing and performance validation.

Project Coordination

  • Interface directly with ADNOC Offshore representatives and EPC contractors.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are submitted as per agreed schedules.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Participate in project progress reviews and management meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Master's Degree is considered advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years of Instrumentation & Control engineering experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a Lead Instrument & Control Engineer role.
  • Strong experience in ADNOC Offshore projects.
  • Extensive FEED and EPC experience in offshore oil & gas projects.
  • Experience with greenfield offshore developments, wellhead platforms, gathering stations, central processing platforms, and associated facilities.
  • Middle East/GCC project experience is essential.
