Kantar’s Worldpanel division is searching for a Global Data Scientist. Based in Lisbon, Portugal this is truly an incredible opportunity to be part of our exciting vision for the future!

The Team and Role’s mission

Are you passionate about decoding shopper behaviour and using data to answer tough questions? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where your analytical skills can directly impact business strategies?

By joining our Global Analytical Development Teams as a Global Data Scientist at Kantar Worldpanel, you'll work with the richest consumer panel dataset in the world, helping global clients understand and predict shopper behaviour across various markets, including FMCG, Tech, Beauty, and Fashion.

You’ll tackle complex challenges, such as modelling the potential impact of a brand being delisted by a retailer and determining whether customers will switch to competitors or remain loyal to the brand elsewhere. Your ability to simplify the complex, craft compelling narratives, and present analytics that drive strategic decisions will be key to your success.

You should have expert-level data wrangling skills and be comfortable working with a variety of technologies, including R, Python, Databricks, and more. Flexibility and a willingness to learn are essential, as you'll often face new challenges that require innovative solutions. Key outcomes

  • Lead data analytics efforts on key global projects, providing expert guidance to local teams on data modelling, statistics, and machine learning to develop effective solutions and simulators.
  • Simplify and clearly communicate complex analytics, ensuring that insights are compelling and easily understood by non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists globally to create, refine, and enhance methodologies for our analytic solutions, ensuring they meet the organization’s evolving needs.
  • Conduct in-depth investigations to validate and improve methodologies, deploying more effective approaches when necessary.
  • Work with diverse datasets, utilizing tools like R, Python, and SQL to clean, manipulate, and analyse data, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Leverage technology to develop and present data-driven insights through dashboards, markdown, and other tools, effectively influencing decision-making.
  • Develop software packages that adhere to industry best practices, ensuring robustness and reliability in solutions delivered.

Key Capabilities

Your background will ideally look like this…

  • University Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree) in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent fields.
  • Business proficiency in English (B2 Level Minimum Required).
  • 1-2 years of demonstrable experience in Data Analytics and Data Science oriented roles.
  • Advanced programming skills in Python or R, with practical experience using Git. You should be able to solve complex problems programmatically, as this will be assessed during the interview process.
  • Proficient in applying a range of statistical and machine learning techniques, including regression, classification, clustering, and dimensionality reduction, with a solid understanding of both classical methods like PCA and linear regression as well as modern techniques such as boosted trees and t-SNE.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver analytical solutions, supported by a portfolio of projects where you’ve addressed and solved specific problems.
  • Capable of handling both detailed analytics and strategic business perspectives, easily transitioning between technical specifics and broader business strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

The following, although not mandatory, will be appreciated…

  • Previous professional experience with a Cloud Services platform (Azure/AWS/GCP) and infrastructure – preferably MS Azure.
  • Experienced working within Agile Methodologies (SCRUM/KANBAN Frameworks).
  • Familiarity with R Shiny, Angular, Azure Databricks, Spark, Docker or Kubernetes.
