Automation Intern (Network Design, Implementation, and Troubleshooting) - Summer 2025

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic graduate or undergraduate student in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering to join Juniper Network’s Professional Service Automation team as an intern. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting using various Juniper Network Automation platform. The intern will work closely with our senior solutions consultants on various projects, learning about network protocols, infrastructure, and security. 

Location:  Herndon, VA

Requirements:

• Hybrid:  Home/Herndon, VA (in-office 3 days/week)
• Security Clearance – US Citizenship 
• Enrolled in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering program
• Solid programming skill in Python, and Linux based shell-scripts

Job Responsibilities

• Assist in design and deployment of WAN consisting of routers, switches and firewalls in virtual environment       
• Assist in the documentation of network configurations and procedures.
• Learn and apply networking and routing protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, and VLANs for Juniper networking devices
• Research and evaluate technologies and solutions related to Virtual Private Network (VPN) over IPv6-only WAN
• Write Python based automation scripts for provisioning VPN using Paragon Automation Platform  

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
• Strong familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line interface.
• Proficiency in Python programming, with experience in network automation scripting, data parsing and manipulation.
• Experience in REST API interaction using python libraries such as 'requests'
• Experience with shell scripting (Bash) for system administration and network automation tasks.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git). 
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or similar is a plus.

Minimum Salary: $58,431.86

Maximum Salary:$83,996.32

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $58,431.86 and $83,996.32/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper’s pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
