Job Description:

Sr. Manager, Project Delivery & Portfolio Management

The Geel site is entering a defining period of investment, growth and transformation. We are seeking a senior engineering leader to own the site project portfolio and lead the Project Delivery & Portfolio Management organization. This role combines portfolio management, people leadership and disciplined delivery governance in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will create clarity across competing priorities, enable project teams to excel, and ensure that every investment delivers meaningful business value.

The role is accountable for the site capital portfolio, including reliability and lifecycle investments, compliance-driven projects, and strategic investments in capacity, process improvement and long-term site development. The role leads a multidisciplinary organization of internal employees and external delivery partners and works across Operations, Quality, MSAT, Supply Chain, EHS and global engineering functions to convert site strategy into executable priorities and sustained results.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the site project portfolio — Lead the end-to-end portfolio from demand shaping through execution, handover and benefits realization.

  • Set investment priorities — Align capital allocation, project sequencing and resources with site strategy and long-range plans, while making risks, dependencies and trade-offs transparent for senior decision-making.

  • Ensure delivery excellence — Establish predictable delivery across scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, compliance and operational readiness, applying J&J standards, stage-gate governance and risk management.

  • Provide senior project oversight — Guide critical projects and intervene when needed to resolve constraints, protect outcomes and sustain business value.

  • Lead and develop the organization — Coach project managers, project leads, engineers and portfolio professionals; build an inclusive, high-performing team; and strengthen workforce planning, succession and talent capability.

  • Drive engineering excellence and strategic alignment — Set expectations across design, constructability, commissioning, qualification, validation and handover; champion safety, process safety and GMP compliance; and influence site master planning, capital strategy and stakeholder alignment.

Key qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive engineering, project delivery, capital portfolio or program leadership experience in a complex matrix organization.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop people leaders, multidisciplinary teams and individual contributors.

  • End-to-end project lifecycle credibility, from concept and business case through execution, start-up, handover and benefits realization.

  • Strong business and strategic acumen, executive communication and stakeholder management, with the ability to connect priorities, technical choices and investment decisions and to lead through ambiguity.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical or another highly regulated manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of safety, quality, compliance and GMP expectations.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline; knowledge of commissioning, qualification and validation is strongly valued.

What we are looking for

We are looking for “End 2 End”-minded people leader who combines strategic perspective with execution focus. The ideal candidate creates clarity in complexity, builds trust across functions, holds a high bar for results and develops strong project delivery capability for the future.
