Retail Project Manager, Security
Location: Orangeburg-New York-United States of America
Time Type: Full time
Job Description
Johnson Controls is a global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings. In this role, you will help deliver security projects that protect people, property, and operations while supporting strong customer outcomes, quality execution, and clear communication from start to finish.
Role Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for leading assigned security projects from planning through execution and closure, ensuring profitability, on-time delivery, quality outcomes, and customer satisfaction. You will coordinate across pre-sales, installation, supply, and customer stakeholders to keep scope, budget, risks, documentation, and handoffs under control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Project planning & preparation: Develop the project charter and project plan, define milestones, deliverables, roles, and success criteria, and confirm that all installation-specific requirements are captured.
- Scope and budget alignment: Work with the pre-sales team to align scope, design, and budget, and ensure all cost components are included for accurate project budgeting.
- Risk management: Identify risks, dependencies, and constraints early, then define practical mitigation actions and recovery options.
- Project execution: Conduct customer kick-off meetings, transfer finalized design and documentation to installation and coordination teams, and maintain execution cadence through regular internal and customer meetings.
- Progress tracking and reporting: Maintain internal and customer-facing trackers, progress reports, and schedule updates that reflect current status, variances, and next actions.
- Site and supply coordination: Proactively manage site readiness, permits, supply issues, and other dependencies by coordinating reschedules or alternative solutions when needed.
- Change management: Oversee customer-driven scope changes, document the impact on schedule, budget, and resources, and communicate updates to all relevant stakeholders.
- Project closure: Complete final documentation, obtain customer sign-off, archive records, and manage surplus equipment returns where required.
How You Will Do It
- Own the project from planning through closeout, keeping safety, integrity, profitability, and customer satisfaction at the center of every decision.
- Stay close to the work by resolving site readiness, supply, permit, and dependency issues quickly with customers, installers, and internal teams.
- Use clear cadence and candor through kick-off meetings, structured progress reviews, and timely reporting so risks and changes stay visible early.
- Improve every day by updating plans when conditions change, learning from issues, and applying practical problem-solving to keep delivery on track.
- Win as one team by coordinating pre-sales, installation, documentation, and customer communication with trust, accountability, and shared priorities.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of project management, construction supervision, or field leadership experience, preferably in security, low-voltage, life safety, installation, or technical deployment environments.
- Proven ability to deliver projects on time, within scope, and within budget while maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction.
- Experience developing project plans, managing risks and dependencies, and coordinating cross-functional teams in dynamic environments.
- Proficiency with project management tools, ERP systems, Microsoft Office, and budgeting or cost-tracking techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear progress updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to make timely decisions, manage competing priorities, adapt to change, and lead cross-functional teams effectively.
- English proficiency required.
Nice to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or PMP certification.
- Experience with MS Project, Asana, Trello, Smartsheet, SharePoint, Teams, SAP, Oracle, or Monday.com.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, PDF editor, and retail loss prevention systems such as RFID, Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS), video surveillance, and inventory management platforms.
- Spanish or French language skills.
Why Join Us
- Competitive salary and 15 days of vacation in the first year.
- Comprehensive benefits package including 401K, medical, dental, and vision care available from day one.
- Encouraging and collaborative team environment with on-the-job and cross-training opportunities.
