The Senior Systems Engineer will help maintain and secure an enterprise infrastructure environment supporting critical systems and applications. In this fully remote role, you will manage a mixed server environment consisting primarily of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, alongside Windows servers, while supporting security compliance and vulnerability remediation. You will play a key role in system performance monitoring, capacity planning, patch management, and certificate administration across on-premises and AWS environments. Working closely with development, database, customer support, data center teams, and external partners, you will help resolve technical issues and maintain reliable operations. You will also contribute to security assessments, audits, and recurring compliance activities aligned with federal standards. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on infrastructure professional with an active Secret security clearance and a strong commitment to system reliability, security, and operational excellence.

Accountabilities

    • Provide technical guidance and help coordinate day-to-day priorities for the enterprise systems and infrastructure environment.

    • Administer, maintain, and support approximately 34 servers, primarily running Red Hat Enterprise Linux, along with a smaller number of Windows servers.

    • Perform quarterly and annual security compliance activities involving Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

    • Manage Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates, including tracking expiration dates, coordinating renewals, and installing certificates on web servers and Oracle applications.

    • Execute and track weekly Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) vulnerability scans, following up on findings and supporting remediation efforts.

    • Monitor operating system and middleware resource utilization, assess capacity requirements, and help plan infrastructure expansions when needed.

    • Apply operating system security patches, updates, and upgrades to maintain system security and stability.

    • Monitor system performance across operating systems and AWS infrastructure, identifying issues and supporting optimization efforts.

    • Respond to scheduled and ad hoc audit requests by providing technical information and supporting compliance activities.

    • Coordinate with data center personnel to resolve SLDCADA-related issues involving networking, systems, security, and user access.

    • Provide technical assistance to development, customer support, and database teams as needed.

    • Support additional technical projects involving external partners and organizations, including USAGM, NIS, and DISA.

    • Assist with application vulnerability remediation and support tools and systems such as Control-M, Track-It, and EWM/RTC.

    • Requirements

      • Active Secret security clearance or higher.

      • Strong hands-on experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.

      • Experience with Windows server administration is an advantage.

      • Familiarity with STIGs, SCAP, ACAS vulnerability scanning, and PKI certificate management.

      • Experience monitoring system performance and capacity across on-premises infrastructure and AWS environments.

      • Understanding of operating system patching, security compliance, vulnerability remediation, and infrastructure maintenance.

      • Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, data center personnel, and external partners to resolve operational issues.

      • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate system issues and support reliable infrastructure operations.

      • Experience with Control-M, Track-It, or EWM/RTC is a plus.

      • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while coordinating effectively with cross-functional teams.

      • Benefits

        • Work arrangement: Fully remote position.

        • Technical scope: Opportunity to work across enterprise Linux and Windows systems, AWS infrastructure, security compliance, and vulnerability management.

        • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with development, database, customer support, data center teams, and external partners.

        • Security-focused experience: Contribute to infrastructure protection, federal compliance activities, and security remediation initiatives.
