This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Developer, API Platform based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to design and scale the core API infrastructure powering a modern intelligent mobility platform.
You will build a unified API gateway that connects applications, services, and AI-driven workflows through secure and reliable solutions.
As a senior technical contributor, you will influence architecture decisions, establish API standards, and improve developer experiences across teams.
You will collaborate with engineering, product, security, and architecture stakeholders in a highly innovative environment.
The position combines hands-on software development, platform engineering, technical leadership, and mentorship.
You will help create scalable systems that enable smarter, safer, and more efficient digital experiences for communities worldwide.
Accountabilities:
- Design, build, scale, and maintain a stateless API gateway serving as the central entry point for applications and services.
- Develop high-quality, maintainable software solutions primarily using Kotlin or Go.
- Define architectural patterns that preserve clear boundaries between platform capabilities and domain services.
- Implement API capabilities including routing, access control, formatting standards, usage tracking, billing integrations, tenant-aware permissions, and observability.
- Establish and promote API governance practices, including versioning, backward compatibility, API linting, and contract testing.
- Collaborate with architecture, security, product, and engineering teams to define scalable API strategies and standards.
- Drive alignment across teams on domain modeling, resource naming, and API design decisions.
- Create machine-readable API contracts that support AI agents, automation workflows, and future intelligent systems.
- Build comprehensive documentation and service catalogs that improve API discoverability and adoption.
- Participate actively in technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews while mentoring other developers.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
- Proven experience designing, developing, and scaling centralized API gateways or API platforms in complex production environments.
- Strong knowledge of API-first development practices and OpenAPI specifications.
- Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and designing complex domain models.
- Advanced programming experience with Kotlin and/or Go.
- Strong hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization patterns, including OIDC, OAuth 2.0, and identity platforms such as Auth0.
- Experience implementing API security, governance, monitoring, and observability practices.
- Ability to create scalable developer platforms and improve internal developer experiences.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to drive technical discussions and reach alignment across teams.
- Experience mentoring engineers through technical guidance, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
- Interest in artificial intelligence technologies, including AI agents, LLMs, and frameworks such as MCP (Model Context Protocol).
