This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Power Studies Engineer (PSCAD) based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the engineering of advanced electrical power systems supporting hyperscale and AI-driven data centers across North America.
The successful candidate will perform complex power system studies focused on reliability, resiliency, and performance optimization.
Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with engineering teams, utilities, and project stakeholders on mission-critical infrastructure.
You will leverage advanced modeling tools and industry expertise to solve complex electrical challenges where uptime and system stability are essential.
This position provides exposure to cutting-edge technologies, large-scale infrastructure projects, and innovative engineering solutions.
The role is fully remote within Canada, with occasional travel required based on project needs.

Accountabilities:
- Perform advanced power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding, power quality, harmonic analysis, transient analysis, and reliability assessments.
- Develop and maintain electrical system models using PSCAD, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or similar power system analysis platforms.
- Conduct electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to evaluate system behavior during switching events, faults, utility disturbances, and significant load variations.
- Analyze the impact of high-density AI and mission-critical loads on utility systems, emergency generation, UPS infrastructure, and facility electrical networks.
- Support utility interconnection studies and coordinate technical requirements with utility providers.
- Evaluate redundancy strategies, contingency scenarios, system reliability, and overall electrical resiliency.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, documentation, and recommendations for clients and project teams.
- Collaborate with electrical design teams on medium-voltage systems, substations, standby generation, UPS systems, and utility infrastructure.
- Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, commissioning activities, and technical discussions with stakeholders.
- Review engineering deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 8–15 years of experience in power systems engineering, utility engineering, substations, transmission and distribution, industrial facilities, renewable energy, mining, or mission-critical infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience performing power system studies, including transient, harmonic, grounding, load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, and arc flash analysis.
- Required proficiency with PSCAD.
- Experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYME, or similar engineering software.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, substations, protective relaying, utility infrastructure, and reliability concepts.
- Experience with utility interconnections and medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with underground duct bank ampacity and heat studies using Neher-McGrath methodology is an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada, or eligibility to obtain registration, is an asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, IEEE standards, utility requirements, and applicable provincial regulations.
- Familiarity with U.S. electrical standards, including NEC, NFPA, and IEEE requirements, is an asset.
- Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical recommendations to clients.
