AWS Cloud Engineer – S3/DataSync

Team: IT

Location: Canada

Commitment: Contract

Workplace Type: remote

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AWS Cloud Engineer – S3/DataSync based in Canada.

Join a cloud engineering team focused on troubleshooting, optimizing, and supporting complex AWS environments. As an AWS Cloud Engineer specializing in S3 and DataSync, you will apply deep technical expertise to data movement, object storage, system integrations, and cloud connectivity challenges. You will investigate production incidents, diagnose complex API interactions, and resolve issues across heterogeneous systems. Your work will help ensure secure, reliable, and efficient data transfer and ingestion workflows at scale. Collaborating with engineering teams, business users, and external vendors, you will translate technical findings into clear, actionable solutions. This remote contract opportunity is suited to a hands-on cloud professional who combines strong AWS knowledge, systematic debugging skills, and effective communication.

Accountabilities:

You will troubleshoot and support AWS storage and data transfer services, investigate production issues, and help maintain secure, reliable cloud integrations across complex technical environments.

    • Apply deep hands-on knowledge of Amazon S3, including APIs, permissions, object behavior, service limits, and edge cases.

    • Investigate and resolve issues involving S3 and AWS DataSync, particularly those related to large-scale file transfers, object movement, and data ingestion workflows.

    • Diagnose system-to-system interactions and REST API integration issues, identifying root causes and implementing or recommending effective solutions.

    • Troubleshoot cloud networking and connectivity challenges involving routing, network access, and load balancing.

    • Review and resolve IAM permissions, security policies, and access control issues to support secure cloud operations.

    • Develop and use scripts to reproduce problems, investigate system behavior, validate hypotheses, and verify fixes.

    • Support data movement and ingestion processes, applying data normalization concepts where required.

    • Investigate production incidents across large, heterogeneous environments and coordinate troubleshooting through resolution.

    • Manage incidents, technical issues, and follow-up activities using Jira or an equivalent ticket management platform.

    • Communicate technical findings, troubleshooting steps, and recommended resolutions clearly to non-engineering stakeholders and external vendors.

    • Collaborate with relevant technical teams and third parties to resolve dependencies and maintain reliable system integrations.

    • Requirements:

The ideal candidate has strong practical experience with AWS storage services, cloud networking, and production troubleshooting. You should be comfortable investigating complex technical issues independently, validating solutions through scripting, and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

      • Deep hands-on expertise with Amazon S3, including its APIs, permissions, object behavior, service limits, and less common edge cases.

      • Strong understanding of AWS IAM, security policies, and cloud networking fundamentals.

      • Experience with routing, connectivity troubleshooting, and load balancing in cloud environments.

      • Working knowledge of AWS DataSync and its use in data transfer and synchronization workflows.

      • Experience debugging REST APIs, integrations, and system-to-system interactions.

      • Scripting proficiency for reproducing, diagnosing, testing, and validating technical issues.

      • Understanding of large-scale file and object movement, data ingestion workflows, and data normalization concepts.

      • Experience investigating production incidents in complex, heterogeneous technical environments.

      • Familiarity with Jira or an equivalent issue and ticket management system.

      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and evaluate potential solutions.

      • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues to non-engineering users and external vendors.

      • Ability to work collaboratively, manage troubleshooting activities, and communicate progress effectively in a remote environment.

      • Benefits:

        • Hourly compensation: The job listing advertises a rate of $40–$60 per hour, while the role description specifies $40 per hour on a W-2 basis. The final rate may depend on qualifications, experience, and location.

        • Remote work: Work remotely.

        • Healthcare options: Eligible W-2 employees can elect medical, dental, and vision insurance.

        • Paid sick leave: Provided in accordance with applicable state law.

        • Major holidays: Holiday benefits are included in the stated compensation package.

        • Contract opportunity: Gain hands-on experience supporting AWS storage, data transfer, and cloud networking in complex production environments.
