Automation Engineer V

Team: IT

Location: US

Commitment: Full-time

Workplace Type: remote

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Automation Engineer V based in the United States.

This role will help shape an enterprise-wide AI automation and transformation ecosystem, with n8n serving as a core orchestration platform.
You will architect secure, scalable, and resilient automation solutions that reduce manual effort and improve operational performance.
The position combines hands-on engineering with platform ownership, architecture, governance, and technical mentorship.
You will integrate AI agents, LLMs, APIs, event-driven systems, and intelligent decisioning into business workflows across multiple functions.
A key focus will be establishing reusable standards, CI/CD practices, observability, and governance that enable automation to scale safely.
You will also influence technical direction, mentor engineers and implementation partners, and promote responsible AI adoption.
Success will be measured through improved reliability, reduced cycle times and manual work, stronger automation adoption, and measurable business impact.

Accountabilities

    • Own enterprise AI automation and transformation initiatives, using n8n as a core orchestration platform to develop scalable, secure, and resilient workflow solutions.
    • Architect hybrid automation patterns that combine n8n or Boomi, APIs, event-driven systems, AI agents, and intelligent decision engines to improve reuse and accelerate process transformation.
    • Define patterns for integrating LLMs, AI agents, model services, and AI-driven decisioning into enterprise business processes.
    • Serve as the technical owner for n8n and AI workflow automation initiatives, establishing environment strategies, CI/CD pipelines, deployment practices, and governance models.
    • Implement workflow standards, logging, monitoring, reliability guardrails, fault-tolerance practices, and high-availability patterns for deterministic and AI-driven workflows.
    • Establish enterprise automation standards covering exception handling, retry strategies, naming conventions, security protocols, approval processes, code reviews, quality gates, and AI workflow validation.
    • Develop reusable templates, accelerators, AI agent patterns, and prompt frameworks to improve engineering consistency and speed.
    • Define responsible AI governance covering model selection, cost controls, prompt and version management, data privacy, security, auditability, and operational risk.
    • Use observability, anomaly detection, intelligent alerting, and performance metrics to proactively identify failures, drift, degraded performance, AI latency, cost, and accuracy issues.
    • Operate as a player-coach by mentoring engineers, guiding contractors and external implementation teams, and leading technical design, workflow review, and post-incident sessions.
    • Promote best practices in prompt engineering, agent orchestration, human-in-the-loop workflows, and responsible AI automation across the organization.
    • Identify and deliver high-value AI automation opportunities that reduce manual effort, improve decision-making, increase reliability, enhance employee or customer experience, and shorten process cycle times.
    • Establish measurable success indicators such as automation adoption, cycle-time reduction, SLAs, SLOs, MTTR, workflow costs, AI performance, and business impact.
    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
      • 10+ years of experience in enterprise automation, workflow engineering, integration engineering, platform architecture, or a closely related discipline.
      • Deep hands-on expertise with n8n or Boomi, including experience building and orchestrating AI-enabled workflows, agents, and cross-functional business automations.
      • Proven experience designing API-first and event-driven architectures and integrating AI/ML services and agent-based systems.
      • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, JWT, API security, and secure integration of AI services and model endpoints.
      • Experience implementing CI/CD for automation or integration platforms, including deployment, versioning, and release strategies for AI workflows, prompts, and models.
      • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including AI/ML services such as Amazon Bedrock or Azure OpenAI and scalable model integration patterns.
      • Practical understanding of LLMs, prompt engineering, AI agents, and orchestration frameworks, particularly their application to enterprise automation.
      • Experience with observability and monitoring, including AI-specific metrics such as latency, cost, accuracy, reliability, and model or workflow drift.
      • Demonstrated ability to influence architecture and technical direction across teams and drive adoption of AI-powered automation and intelligent orchestration patterns.
      • Strong technical leadership, communication, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
      • Ability to simplify complex business and technical processes into scalable, governed, and maintainable automation solutions.
      • Demonstrated ability to use AI meaningfully to improve development productivity, workflow diagnostics, process analysis, root-cause investigation, and operational outcomes.
      • Strong ownership mindset with a focus on quality, reliability, accountability, measurable results, and continuous improvement.
      • Benefits

        • Competitive base salary depending on location and qualifications:
          • Colorado: $126,000–$201,600
          • Washington: $126,000–$222,800
          • California: $126,000–$244,000
          • New York City: $139,200–$244,000
          • Eligibility for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to the applicable plan.
          • Paid time off and paid parental leave.
          • Health and wellness benefits that generally include medical, life, and disability insurance, with eligibility varying by location.
          • Opportunity to work in an AI-first environment where AI is embedded into workflows, decision-making, and products.
          • Strong focus on learning, experimentation, and staying current with emerging AI technologies and best practices.
          • Inclusive workplace culture with employee-led resource groups supported by senior and executive leadership.
          • Opportunity to influence enterprise-wide automation strategy and work on high-impact AI transformation initiatives.
          • Professional growth through technical leadership, mentoring, architecture ownership, and cross-functional collaboration.
