About the opportunity:

At Jerry, we are building the first AllCar™ super app to help people optimize all aspects of owning a car, an essential expense that costs the average person more than 20% of their income every year, or a $2T market in the U.S. We started with insurance in 2019, and since then we’ve launched loan refinancing, real-time driving insights, car diagnostics, repair marketplace, and a GPT-4 chatbot.

As we get closer to being the first, truly connected ecosystem for car owners, we are excited to bring on a VP of Engineering to lead our software engineering function. Reporting directly to our co-founder/CTO, Musawir Shah, who is focused on leading product implementation initiatives, you will be responsible for managing and scaling our engineering teams, mentoring and developing our talented engineers, ensuring we are executing quickly and with very high quality across the entire engineering org, and helping us go from 5M to 50M users in the next few years. You will create a team culture of amplifying Jerry’s values of excellence, ownership, and urgency. What you'll do:

• Lead our engineering org (currently ~70 SWEs), directly supervising engineering managers and tech/team leads. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality and high velocity execution from our engineering teams.

• Continuously raise the bar on our talent density by recruiting stellar engineers and investing in the development of our teams. Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members.

• Ensure that our engineering teams are setting ambitious goals, and that they never stop learning and growing under your leadership. Unblock and push our teams when necessary. 

• Identify, evaluate, and optimize processes to maximize team efficiency. Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges.

• Foster a collaborative, ambitious, and outcome-driven culture.

• Facilitate and collaborate with cross functional partners including product, design, data science, marketing and operations.

Who you are:

• You have software development experience scaling a consumer-facing product (mobile or web).

• You are enthusiastic about diving into the code and getting your hands dirty when needed.

• You have strong technical mastery in software engineering but remain curious and committed to learning and improving your craft.

• You have a strong sense of urgency to deliver results and inspire the team to achieve beyond what they think is possible.

• You have a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

• You have experience leading a high-performance engineering team, ideally 50+ engineers.

• Language and frameworks: Typescript: Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, Expo

• API: GraphQL

• DB: Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, Redis

• Infrastructure: Built on AWS, microservice architecture with containerized services deployed on ECS and EKS. Asynchronous processing functions running on Lambda.
