ABOUT THE PROGRAM – Summer 2027 Internship

As an intern at Invenergy, you will have the opportunity to:
- Expand your knowledge and skills with industry leading tools and software while gaining hands-on professional experience
- Engage with leaders throughout the organization and learn about the clean energy industry through weekly lunch-and-learns.
- Visit our nearby power plants: Grand Ridge Energy Center and Nelson Energy Center
- Spend a day giving back to the community with our ‘Volunteer Time Off’ program

- Our program takes place from the end of May/early June – August lasting for 10-12 weeks
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
Applicants will be considered for internships with various electrical engineering departments across the organization. Our engineering interns are responsible for overseeing the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects. In the past, our engineering interns have joined teams such as:
Grid Modeling & Compliance
- Develop power system models for renewable energy projects, including power flow, dynamic, and electromagnetic transient (EMT) models.
- Provide support to engineers on topics related to inverters and plant controllers design, and analysis.
- Review and analyze regulatory requirements and industry standards, including IEEE and NERC standards.
- Support other teams across the organization on technical matters related to modeling, compliance assessments, and interconnection issues.
- Contribute to team initiatives focused on developing automation tools and improving workflows, including programming in Python.
Interconnections & Grid Analysis
- Perform power flow analysis as part of generation and transmission development activities.
- Provide support for the Engineers in the team on various generation and transmission related technical analyses
- Review interconnection study reports to provide relevant technical summary for the team
- Assist with excel tool development where necessary
Reliability Compliance
- Build algorithms to automatically triangulate a variety of complex engineering data across several databases
- Support senior staff with curating training material and delivering training
- Review equipment rating reports for completeness
- Compose position papers on a variety of emerging power engineering operational, AI, and NERC regulatory matters
- Organize substation maintenance schedules
- Interpret and analyze data to support program metrics. Internal controls, and compliance determinations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Majoring in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems Engineering focus.
- Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
- Demonstrated interest in energy sector
Base Pay
$22 - $27 Hourly
The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Your recruiter can share more about the base pay for this internship opportunity during the hiring process.
Interns may be eligible to contribute to a 401k.
