Job Description
Primary Function of Position
Contribute your technical manufacturing and equipment design skills to a dynamic development team creating precision accessories for minimally invasive robotic surgery. You must demonstrate exceptional mechanical design capabilities and be able to deliver consistent improvements for production accessories. In this role you will engage with design manufacturing and supply engineering teams to contribute to mechanical design improvements for existing accessories. The role requires effective participation in new product development teams that create and refine electro-mechanical components, assemblies, process documentation, tooling and test methods while challenging new product designs to improve efficacy, reliability, manufacturability and cost for robotic surgical accessories.
Essential Job Duties
- Create, maintain and improve pilot “high volume” manufacturing automated assembly lines, specifying and/or refining BOMs, work flow processes, manufacturing plan and detailed work instructions.
- Examine accessories manufacturing lines from a risk perspective (PFMEA) to incorporate and validate critical tests used in manufacturing.
- Responsible for the validation and qualification of manufacturing equipment and processes leveraging standard qualification approaches (IQ/OQ/DQ/PQ).
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects with respect to first pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity enhancement and cost reduction.
- Provide product and process DFx (Manufacturing, Assembly) input to enhance manufacturability of new products.
- Takes responsibility for maintaining compliance with medical device quality system including corrective action closure, discrepant material dispositions and ECO implementation. Provides technical support analyzing and /or performing failure analysis for discrepant production components, assemblies and field returns.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience with improving automation lines performance within a regulated industry.
- Prior responsibility for process, equipment or product validation/verification.
- Fundamental understanding of process engineering, equipment, test and the manufacturing environment “Self-starter” attitude and comfort in a hands-on environment, where he/she can demonstrate an ability to work with other engineers to influence product design to improve reliability
- Prior responsibility for validation of processes, equipment and products
- Excellent quantitative process development skills including (p)FMEA, tolerance analysis, DoE, SPC, GR&R, and CpK
- Excellent organizational skills; Able to manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally across a range of technical disciplines with a broad slate of stakeholders, including management, peers, customers, and suppliers
- Great attitude, eager, willing/able to take initiative, works well with others in team environment.
- CAD experience (preferred Solidworks).
- Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment a plus
- Able to travel 20-25% to suppliers or Intuitive Mexicali plant.
Required Education and Training
- Minimum BS/MS Degree in Engineering discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of direct Manufacturing Engineering experience, with complex mechanical products. Medical device experience preferred
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Prior experience designing automated equipment, complex mechanism manufacturing is a plus
- Experience with high volume automated assembly and plastic forming and joining processes (injection molding, transfer molding, and ultrasonic welding) a plus.
- New product introduction/development desirable. Robotics knowledge a plus.
- Experience in an ISO 13485,ISO9001, or medical device manufacturing environment is a plus
