IOM, in partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will support the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the implementation of the Adaptation Fund project "Building Climate Resilient Cities and Communities in the Republic of Azerbaijan". The project aims to enhance climate change adaptation and resilience of local communities in Azerbaijan while fostering the necessary capacities and knowledge in the country.
It will be achieved through three main components: 1) enhancing technical and institutional capacity for climate action; 2) implementing climate adaptation initiatives, such as reducing heat risk through greening corridors in Baku, enhancing early warning systems for sea level fluctuations and flooding in Neftchala, and improving water security through rainwater harvesting in Astara; and 3) scaling up climate change adaptation solutions.
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office (HoO) in Azerbaijan and direct supervision of theNational Programme Officer, and in collaboration with relevant units at the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, the Senior Project Associate (Climate Action) will be responsible and accountable for coordinating and supporting the implementation of IOM’s activities under the above-mentioned project, including assigned activities in Neftchala and Astara, as well as relevant activities in Baku and Component 3, maintaining compliance with IOM procedures and donor requirements.
