Position Overview:

The Global Manufacturing Engineering Group showcases talented professionals, world-class technologies and innovative solutions that “Power” the quality and performance of Insulet Corporation’s unique drug delivery devices.

The Sr. Manager of Manufacturing Engineering for Controls implementation, technology and processes will lead the team in enabling production of Insulet’s POD, an on-body insulin pump. This role will lead cross-functionally, and in collaboration with Production, driving prioritized projects aligned with quality and business goals. The team is responsible to provide production controls processes that are capable, validated, reliable, cost effective, documented and scalable globally. The team also develops and delivers training to Plant staff.

Responsibilities:

· Build and enable the Controls Engineering team to deliver production processes and equipment that meet the safety, quality and equipment design requirements.

· Drive team ownership of measurable impact on Overall Equipment Effectiveness, cost per device and product quality.

· Leverage the analytical data and internal customer requests in aligning priorities.

· Development, training and motivation of Engineers. Propagate training to the Plant staff.

· Ensure compliance to electrical safety standards for industrial automation equipment.

· Drive cross-functional communication of projects under way and of tangible impact on OEE, cost per device and training.

· Personal execution of improvements in PLC, HMI, Vision and Robot software, as a “Working manager” to include review of Engineers’ work.

· Active and early engagement in the development of requirements for new equipment and coordination with new equipment vendors

· Support the work in reliability and scalability of the IT/OT infrastructure - database and network - for manufacturing to collect and manage production and quality data.

· Work collaboratively with New Product Introduction teams to ensure that next-generation products can be supported. Assist with pFMEA

· Apply efficient and compliant software development processes, including compliance to FDA 21 CFR part 11.

· Leverage Jira or similar tools to manage the work.

· Leverage the vision lab and other prototype equipment to test proposed solutions before implementation in production.

· Other responsibilities as relevant and assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation or related field. Masters preferred.

· Minimum of ten years of hands-on complex assembly and manufacturing equipment controls and OT experience including clean sheet design and implementation of continuous improvement for discrete component assembly equipment.

· Minimum of five years managing engineering direct reports in Controls Engineering

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

· Extensive experience in the engineering, design, development, debugging, commissioning and acceptance of manufacturing process software for high volume assembly automation and test.

· Formal responsibility for, and leadership of, a Controls Engineering team and related budget.

· Extensive experience in the engineering, design, and development of manufacturing equipment for high volume, high speed, high precision assembly operation and complex industrial systems

· Expert programming knowledge of Rockwell Automation RSLogix5000 and FTView ME and SE.

· Strong Knowledge of VFD and Servo drives. (AB Powerflex and Kinetix preferred)

· Experience with B&R controls software and hardware a strong plus.

· Management and oversight of vendor communications and collaboration.

· Ability to critically review engineering designs and ensure adherence to company design and development guidelines and SOP’s.

· Strong knowledge of servo motion control concepts and robotics

· String knowledge of visions systems such as Cognex and Keyence.

· Knowledge of visual computing tasks, such as camera representations and related data processing, 3D world to image mapping.

· Knowledge of leading model architectures and techniques across a broad range of domains, including image classification, object detection, image segmentation, anomaly detection and object tracking is a plus.

· Proficiency in robot system design including selection of IO devices and controls components, creating power distribution and network architecture diagrams, creating detailed electrical schematics, documenting sequence of operation and functional requirements.

· Hands-on ability to setup a robot application from scratch including configuration, programming, teaching, safeguarding and validation of automated sequences.

· Intermediate/advanced SQL skills, comfortable manipulating/merging large datasets directly in the database.

· Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis (hypothesis testing, regression modeling) and exposure to machine learning algorithms is a plus

· Strong project management, organizational and documentation skills desired.

· Ability to uphold Safety standards, to participate in Continuous Process Improvement on the job, and to follow our business best practices.

· Working knowledge Medical Device regulations including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, FDA 21 CFR part 820 and GDP.

· Knowledge of Lean six sigma methods

· Ability to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment.

Physical Requirements:

· The successful candidate will be expected to travel domestically and internationally. Anticipated travel is estimated at 5-10%.

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000.00 - $202,800.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
