Position Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer is a key member of Insulet’s Supplier Development Engineering team. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. The Mechanical Engineer has several key roles on the team. S/he will engage and work with Supplier Engineers to resolve mechanical challenges that present during supplier component manufacturing. Reasons for engagement may include urgently investigating and remediating a critical quality issue, continuous improvement, or supporting the introduction of a new or modified component. S/he will own high-value improvement projects, ranging from developing improved manufacturing processes, deploying automated inspection systems, redesigning packaging, and recommending and leading component and material changes to improve manufacturability. Finally, s/he will serve as a key resource to review and approve component-level print specifications to ensure GD&T is adhered to and that design for manufacturability is considered for all Insulet components.
The ideal candidate will have experience with precision component manufacturing for high-volume electromechanical devices including injection-molded plastic components, metal stampings, spring and screw manufacturing. Experience working with suppliers of custom precision components for use in medical devices, automotive, or another highly-regulated industry is also desirable.
Responsibilities:
• Advice and/or support teams of supplier engineers and quality engineers as they investigate and improve supplier processes, deploy tools and equipment at supplier facilities, and introduce new components to suppliers.
• Serve as the key signatory of Insulet component print specifications to ensure that GD&T has been adhered to and that design for manufacturability has been considered
• Lead critical root cause investigations and drive corrective action
• Lead continuous improvement projects, including identifying alternative, more efficient manufacturing methods, deploying automated inspection systems, improving packaging, as well as recommending and implementing component re-designs for manufacturability
• Design gauging and inspection fixtures/equipment in support of Insulet supplier metrology
• Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering
• 2 years of work experience in a regulated industry
• Demonstrated application/experience with SolidWorks or Pro-E
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
• Ability to lead root cause investigation using a structured problem-solving approach and concisely communicate progress
• Ability to manage cross-functional projects, including the authoring and oversight of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and reports
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Solidworks / Pro-E and one of SAS, JMP, or Minitab
• Working knowledge of MS Office, including Office Project software.
• Outstanding team player who seeks and values diverse input to hone ideas, but who has the experience to develop strong starting proposals
• Appreciates the value of timelines and enjoys working in the focused environment that they create
Physical Requirements (if applicable):
• Domestic & International travel may be required up to 10% of the time.

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $88,700.00 - $133,250.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
