Position Overview:
The Director, Plant Engineering is responsible for the coordination of plant maintenance on equipment and facilities at Insulet’s manufacturing plant. The candidate in this role will be accountable to managing equipment & facilities developing and maintaining standards to deliver consistent, high-quality products produced in an efficient manner. The candidate will be responsible for achieving safety/quality/service/cost metrics, implementing maintenance scorecards, recruiting and developing talent, maintaining good manufacturing practices and compliance with federal/state/local regulations, and advancing Insulet’s culture and work environment.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and drive clear strategic direction, priorities, and operating metrics for the maintenance team
- Supervise, train and coach the maintenance management team, develop and coach the plant engineering team, set priorities and ensure that teams are delivering projects on time and on budget.
- Responsible for developing and achieving budgets for cost per unit, labor, downtime, and capital.
- Develop, implement, and manage all plant maintenance and calibration procedures to ensure all plant goals are met with respect to PM, on time calibration, spare parts inventory, and procurement
- Develop, implement, and manage all Facilities maintenance procedures to ensure compliance with quality and ISO requirements.
- Collaborate with corporate facilities team to maintain all assets on the manufacturing site.
- Develop Maintenance scorecards and/or reports to demonstrate organization performance to leadership
- Foster a Continuous Improvement environment by improving products, service, and processes with the site to reduce waste streams while striving for efficiency and profitability. Leverage team skills and resources to deliver superior results.
- Act as a leadership resource and ensure that the statistical process control structure is maintained and that facts and data are used in all decisions related to product quality, cost savings improvements, etc.
- Manage maintenance team schedules to ensure on time PM/Cal of equipment
- Develop partnership with Corporate Teams (Customer Care, Life Cycle, Engineering, Regulatory, etc.) to continually drive a superior quality product.
- Applying understanding of Lean concepts, lead sustainability processes and continuous improvement activities utilizing problem solving methodology and mistake-proofing concepts.
- Strategically develop succession planning for key roles in the plant maintenance team, i.e. Sr. Maintenance Manager, Shift Managers, Controls techs, Maintenance Techs

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or experience in related field preferred. A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.
- 10 years of engineering and plant maintenance management experience preferred. Experience in an FDA & ISO 13485 regulated industry is preferred.
- Experience working directly in a manufacturing environment with highly automated, discrete component assembly facility is required.
- Strong knowledge of plant safety related issues including compliance with State, Federal and Local regulations is required.
- Experience using Enterprise Asset Management software preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing operations/quality control assurance best practices is required.
- The ability to analyze data using various operating systems and programs, and to develop intra-department teams to establish goals and take corrective actions to improve performance, is required.
- The ability to work closely in a team-based environment with all levels of employees is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, independent self-starter with highly developed analytical/ problem solving skills is required.
- Strong financial management and business acumen is desired.
- Six Sigma certification and experience is desired.

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $177,675.00 - $266,512.50. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
