Senior Technical Program Manager
Location: Bengaluru, India
Department: Software
Experience: 8
Job Overview
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager to own end-to-end program execution for our existing software products and releases. This role will be responsible for driving planning, sprint execution, release readiness, delivery governance, and cross-functional stakeholder alignment across Product, Engineering, QA, and other partner teams.
This is a highly execution-oriented role. The person in this position will bring structure to quarterly and monthly planning, maintain visibility into team and release performance, and proactively drive risk resolution. The right candidate will be comfortable working across mobile, backend, QA, documentation, and release processes, while also serving as the central point of coordination for leadership updates and release commitments.
We are looking for a high-agency execution leader with a strong analytical and technical foundation who can independently drive large-scale software delivery operations. This role requires someone who can work closely with engineering teams on delivery, releases, process improvements, and execution governance.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end program and release management for existing software products, including scope tracking, dependency management, milestone planning, and release readiness.
- Build and maintain an integrated execution plan across Product, Android, iOS, Backend, QA, Data, DevOps, and other teams involved in shipping releases.
- Convert quarterly business priorities into executable monthly plans and sprint-level commitments in partnership with product and engineering stakeholders.
- Run and manage a strict two-week sprint cadence, including backlog readiness reviews, sprint planning, sprint tracking, review/demo coordination, retrospectives, and sprint closure activities.
- Ensure sprint hygiene in Jira or equivalent tools by keeping epics, stories, priorities, dependencies, owners, timelines, and statuses up to date.
- Lead weekly cross-functional execution reviews, monthly planning and performance reviews, and quarterly planning sessions with relevant stakeholders.
- Own release governance for current products, including release calendars, readiness checkpoints, Go/No-Go decisions, risk logs, issue escalation, and post-release tracking.
- Track overall team delivery performance through a clear metrics framework including sprint predictability, on-time milestone completion, blocker aging, release slippage, defect leakage, planned versus unplanned work, and overall delivery health.
- Drive timely risk identification and escalation, with clear mitigation plans, decision logs, and follow-through on cross-team blockers.
- Maintain execution dashboards and concise status reporting for leadership, making risks, trade-offs, dependencies, and delivery confidence highly visible.
- Improve delivery processes continuously through retrospectives, RCA reviews, process audits, documentation cleanup, and planning discipline improvements.
- Ensure required SDLC and release artifacts are created and maintained, such as PRDs, technical specifications, release notes, test evidence, validation summaries, RCAs, and other program documentation relevant to the team’s delivery process.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership to identify capacity risks, execution bottlenecks, team performance trends, and process gaps affecting delivery quality and predictability.
- Act as the operating bridge between leadership and execution teams so that commitments are realistic, dependencies are surfaced early, and releases are shipped with higher predictability.
- Work closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, QA Leads, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination across multiple parallel workstreams.
- Bring execution discipline and accountability across teams while maintaining a collaborative and solution-oriented working environment.
Years of Experience
- 8+ years of overall experience in software engineering, technical program management, engineering operations, or software delivery management.
- At least 3+ years of prior hands-on software development experience is mandatory before transitioning into program/program delivery roles.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience managing cross-functional software releases and Agile execution across multiple teams.
- Experience handling mobile apps, backend systems, APIs, QA cycles, and production release management is strongly preferred.
- Experience in consumer software, SaaS, IoT-connected products, mobile-plus-backend ecosystems, or similar fast-moving product environments is preferred.
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Tier-1 institute which include IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani, IIITs, top state engineering colleges, or other highly reputed institutions.
- MBA from a reputed institute is a plus but not mandatory.
Technical Qualifications
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices across product discovery, technical scoping, development, QA, release management, and post-release follow-up.
- Ability to understand system architecture, APIs, release dependencies, technical risks, scalability issues, and engineering trade-offs.
- Working knowledge of how mobile apps, backend services, APIs, QA cycles, release workflows, CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies, and production support operations fit together.
- Strong ability to manage release plans, dependency maps, risk registers, and milestone trackers across multiple workstreams.
- Good data orientation with the ability to define, track, analyze, and present delivery and team-performance metrics clearly.
- Ability to read technical discussions, understand architectural trade-offs at a working level, and challenge timelines or execution risks credibly.
- Strong hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, Excel/Google Sheets, dashboards, and reporting workflows.
- Experience with structured documentation such as PRDs, SRS/technical specifications, release notes, RCA documents, validation summaries, and test reports.
Non-Technical Qualifications
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across Product, Engineering, QA, leadership, and partner teams.
- Strong facilitation skills for planning meetings, sprint ceremonies, risk reviews, release discussions, and leadership updates.
- High ownership and follow-through i.e. someone who closes loops rather than just reports status.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to make complex delivery situations simple, structured, and action-oriented.
- Strong intellectual rigor and structured thinking capability expected from candidates who have worked in high-performance engineering environments.
- High ownership mindset with the ability to independently drive execution across multiple teams without constant supervision.
- Ability to create operating discipline in fast-moving teams while maintaining healthy collaboration with stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and prioritization ability in ambiguous or fast-changing environments.
- Detail-oriented, process-disciplined, and comfortable holding teams accountable for execution rigor.
- Able to influence without formal authority and build trust across functions.
- Calm and effective under pressure during release crunches, escalations, or shifting priorities.
Good to Haves
- Experience in healthtech, medtech, regulated software, or device-connected products.
- Familiarity with quality systems, validation processes, SDLC compliance, CAPA-style follow-up, or regulatory documentation environments.
- Experience building or using advanced delivery dashboards with eazyBI, Jira automations, or similar reporting tools.
- Familiarity with engineering productivity metrics, sprint health metrics, and delivery performance frameworks.
- Experience with monthly business reviews, quarterly planning, and cross-functional roadmap alignment in scaling product companies.
- Experience working with globally distributed stakeholders or teams across time zones.
