A day in the life of an IT Solution Architect
- You are working in cooperation with IT and Business stakeholders recognizing the correlation / dependencies between their activities
- You create your designs in close collaboration with the engineers and Domain Architects, guiding them to the deployment of the design.
- You drive to make complex changes or projects happen within and across Tribes. Your holistic view as well as your knowledge of both Business and IT are crucial in the translation of business requirements in a sequence that delivers customer value as early as possible
- You define and align the roadmaps between squads – from same or different Tribes – and other parts of the organization and thoroughly manage dependencies
- You are the connecting pin between colleagues having different expertise in self-steering teams (squads). Your colleagues will be IT Integrators, IT Solution Architects, Engineers, Domain Architects, Product Owners or Squad Masters, Developers, Customer Journey Experts, etc.
- You are a driver of the solution approach (together with squads) using in-depth knowledge of Business and IT such as architecture, application landscapes, infrastructure, business operations and legislation
What you will do
As a Solution Architect, you will help design and guide end‑to‑end solutions across customer interaction channels and/or digitally enabled business‑onboarding journeys:
Customer Channels (Digital, Assisted, Digital Factory)
- Shape coherent, scalable, secure, and future‑proof architectural solutions across ING’s digital and assisted channels
- Collaborate closely with business and IT stakeholders to ensure channel capabilities support a wide variety of customer journeys (e.g., payments, daily banking, and servicing flows)
- Ensure alignment with cross‑channel strategy, reusable patterns, and ING global architectural standards
Digital Business Onboarding (DBO)
- Contribute to ING Belgium’s fully digital onboarding journey for Legal Entities and Self‑Employed customers.
- Architect solutions that orchestrate customer identification, company data, KYC, mandates, and product opening within a distributed and regulated IT landscape.
- Ensure the onboarding journey moves towards Straight Through Processing (STP) where regulations allow.
- Operate at the intersection of business, regulation, and technology—balancing compliance, scalability, sustainability, and customer experience across multiple systems, domains, and countries.

- University / Postgraduate (Master’s Degree).
- Proficient in English (ING’s corporate language)
- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience
- A TOGAF or ArchiMate certification will be a plus
- Behavioural competences: innovative, collaborative, manages complexity and stakeholders, effective communicator
- Technical competences: good understanding of the business domain, works without supervision, facilitates feature delivery, integrates business and IT knowledge to refine features

Be a Solution Architect
You create technical designs for the implementation of effective solutions that meet the specific needs of an organization. Your technical designs have sufficient granularity for the development teams to implement. You guide the implementation during development and maintenance life cycle phases of IT solutions. You ensure that the implemented solution adheres to the technical design.
During development and maintenance life cycle, you work with the DevOps engineering team. They advise on how to implement the solution, participating in architectural design and implementation.

- Strengthen the technical design and implementation quality of IT Systems
- Work closely together as a Solution Architect with Business & Engineering Stakeholders
- Optimize designs, operational efficiency, scalability, reliability and security
- Foster collaboration
- Ensure seamless alignment between design, implementation and Business and Architecture

You will be in a team of IT Solution Architects and Domain Architects. They are part of COE Architecture BE working together with numerous stakeholders being at the heart of the delivery of Features with the Tribes.
