Mechanical Project Engineer | Jacksonville, FL

IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Project Engineer in Jacksonville, FL, to lead design efforts on low to moderate complexity projects and support the delivery of larger, more complex work with senior staff. In this role, you will provide engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight for mechanical systems in the vertical building industry while partnering with engineers, consultants, and clients to deliver practical, code-compliant solutions. You’ll also work within project budgets while mentoring team members and collaborating across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis and design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Prepare detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools
  • Partner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information clearly
  • Support project execution through planning, budgeting, scheduling, and ongoing tracking of percent complete and fee expended
  • Document design decisions, client direction, and project progress throughout the design process
  • Analyze engineering challenges and develop practical, efficient solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants
  • Conduct in-process reviews of system designs, calculations, and specifications and apply IMEG quality control standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated project solutions
  • Identify potential project issues and elevate them to the Project Manager as needed
  • Support projects through bidding and construction administration phases while maintaining a strong focus on safety and risk mitigation

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 5 years of experience minimum required, 6 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
