AI Software Engineer (12 Month Placement Year 2024/25)

Being an AI Software Engineer within our Data Science group means….

You are excited about using cutting-edge research and technology to join forces with a multi-disciplinary team of data scientists and engineers in tackling a wide range of problems. As an AI Software Engineer placement student on our team, you’ll be working on a range of tasks just as any other full-time employee of the team. Tasks will range from supporting and extending our cloud-native Machine Learning platform to understanding and improving the core Natural Language Processing (NLP)-based strategies.

Over the year, you will have the opportunity to be immersed within our iManage product suite and gain exposure to the full software development lifecycle. You will learn about our Artificial Intelligence (AI) products and work with fellow engineers and data scientists on projects that directly impact our customers.

You will operate with a data-focused mindset, and so have the opportunity to experiment with our data sets and contribute to core NLP strategies at the heart of what we deliver. You will rely on Scala and Python and the machine learning ecosystem to better measure our product quality, improve enterprise products, and understand the behaviour of end-users. You will be exposed to and learn other technologies and programming languages that the team uses on a day-to-day basis.

iM Responsible For…  

• Working as a member of the Data Science team and getting to grips with the technologies and processes that the team use on a day-to-day basis
• Taking ownership and seeing a task through to completion, asking for help where necessary  
• Learning to follow best practices in Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery with tools like Docker, GitHub Actions etc.
• Contributing to a range of projects that involve bringing AI to bear on addressing actual customer needs
• Learning about and maintaining highest quality standards at all times understanding that everything the team does has an impact on what we deliver to customers in some form or other
• Learning other technologies and programming languages as needed to get the job done

iM Qualified Because I Have…  

• Been pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM subject with an active interest in technology & data science
• Excellent problem solving and analytical
• Base knowledge and an interest in the theory and practice of standard NLP problems and approaches
• A passion for learning about and contributing to running a large-scale cloud-native Machine Learning platform
• Some experience in data structures, algorithms and statistics.
• Some programming language experience such as Python, Java, Scala etc
• The ability to work in a team, collaborate with others to solve interesting problems that directly affect our customers
• Excellent communication and written skills
