The Big Picture

The Lead/Senior Engineer – BESS & Solar PV will spearhead and establish our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) division and play a strategic role in defining technical frameworks, guiding project execution, and nurturing a high-performing team of engineers. This position is ideal for professionals with strong experience in renewable energy project delivery in the Australian market, including a sound understanding of local standards and grid connection frameworks.


What you can expect as Lead/Senior Engineer – BESS & Solar PV at Illumine-i:

  • You’ll lead the engineering design and delivery of utility-scale and C&I Solar and BESS projects
  • You’ll ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards, grid codes, and local regulatory requirements
  • You’ll coordinate with internal teams, EPCs, consultants, and utilities to ensure seamless execution
  • You’ll oversee preparation of single-line diagrams (SLDs), layouts, protection studies, and connection documentation
  • You’ll support project development, permitting, and due diligence processes
  • You’ll provide technical leadership during project execution, commissioning, and handover
  • You’ll stay up-to-date with evolving industry standards, AEMO/DNSP requirements, and best practices in clean energy engineering


Essential Qualifications include:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Solar PV + BESS engineering (preferably in Australia)
  • Deep knowledge of Australian Standards: AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5139, AS 4777, AS 2067, etc.
  • Proven experience in power system design, energy storage integration, and grid connection
  • Familiarity with AEMO, DNSP processes, and grid application procedures
  • Proficient in tools like AutoCAD, PowerFactory, ETAP, PVsyst, or similar
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering or related field
  • CPEng or RPEQ accreditation (or in progress) is desirable
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional coordination skills


Great to have:

  • Experience with Australian BESS projects.
  • Background in financial modeling of BESS ROI, LCOE, and CapEx/OpEx optimization.
