Engineering Manager

Duties and responsibilities

Financial returns:

  • Ensure the effective financial management of the maintenance department by setting maintenance budgets, capital works programs and engineering plans and ensuring that performance against there are regularly monitored and reviewed. Responsible for the general cost control aspects of maintenance, the preparation of departmental cost budgets and their implementation and submission to management.

  • Assist in control of Capital Projects, in liaison with management, to ensure capital funding is effectively allocated and budgeted in accordance with company directives and philosophy.

  • Ensure the cost effectiveness and technical efficiency of all services performed by outside contracts by close supervision. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with contracts, leases, services agreements and warranties

 

People:

  • Work with Human Resources on manpower planning and management needs

  • Contribute to the effectiveness of management decision making by representing the maintenance department at management meetings and staff meetings and by ensuring regular liaison with heads of other departments.

  • Manage day-to-day staffing requirements, plan and assign work, and establish performance and development goals for team members. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict and improve team member performance.

  • Ensure a technically competent maintenance staff by selecting, training and developing a motivated, well-qualified maintenance team. Carry out regular work sampling studies within the department and evaluate the performance and productivity of personnel.

  • Educate and train all team members in compliance with brand standards, related local laws and safety regulations. Ensure team members are properly trained and have the tools and equipment to carry out job duties. 

Guest experience:

  • Contribute to guest satisfaction standards by ensuring that technical support services quickly address, and where possible, anticipate, individual needs. Ensure the safety and comfort of guests and that any requests for service are handled in a courteous and efficient fashion.

  • Understand and respond to customer’s needs and ensure a high level of guest satisfaction.

  • Carry out preventive maintenance programme to ensure facility is maintained and in service for our guests.

Responsible business:

  • Initiate /Drive IHG Green Engage initiatives at the hotel

  • Contribute to the hotel’s profitability by ensuring the effective management of the buildings environmental controls and energy conservation systems. Evaluate, control and record energy usage and implement and upgrade energy conservation systems.

  • Ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, team members in compliance with regulatory policies and procedures. Maintain relations with outside contacts including guests, regulatory agencies, others as needed.

  • Ensure the staff awareness of energy management within the property by conducting regular education and training programs on energy conservation and matters related to efficient operation of equipment in a cost-effective fashion

Accountability

 Supervises a staff of maintenance/engineering / Shift engineer /tradespersons and contractors. May oversee subordinate managers and supervisors.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent

5 years of engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Job overview Responsible for the efficient operation of the hotel property and all its equipment, ancillary maintenance and repair services and protection of the Owner’s asset. Structural aspects of the hotel as well as the maintenance of grounds and external facilities all fall within the span of responsibility. Manage the engineering/maintenance operations of the hotel to ensure safety and comfort of hotel guests and colleagues. Follow brand standards and/or local regulatory requirements. Perform preventive and regular maintenance and repairs to all areas of the hotel. Responsible for maintaining a clean and organised maintenance shop and for the security of hotel inventory and assets such as tools, supplies, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
