Description:

Associate Product Owner

Be part of the team driving the vision for American’s fast growing customer channel. Use the latest technologies to drive revenue, solve customer pain points, and create an industry leading digital customer experience.

The Mobile Platform Product Owner will strive to differentiate American as an industry leader in mobile products and enhance American products in mobile channels. Successful candidates will be comfortable delving into technical topics, producing thoughtful analysis, and driving work to meet objective-based outcomes. You will define and deliver the foundation of American’s mobile applications, bridging the gap across business, products and IT. 

Strategically this role will: 

  • Collaborate and work closely with internal partners from IT, UX and Analytics to understand customer behavior and create great customer experiences
    Promote mobile tools and features as a way to support other products in meeting their goals and objectives, while ensuring experiences align with vision for mobile and consider the holistic mobile experience. 

  • Keep stakeholders informed and communicate outcomes, learnings, and changes as teams work toward objectives.

  • Conduct competitive benchmarking to research new technologies, identify gaps, and discover opportunities to enhance the customer experience. 

Tactically this role will: 

  • Be part of the team that manages the development and implementation of new mobile features and tools. This includes taking part in Agile ceremonies—grooming, iteration planning, stand-ups and using Agile product management tools.

  • Translate business objectives into technical specifications by creating a backlog of clearly written and well defined user stories.

  • Manage mobile platform backlog to ensure teams are focused on the highest impact efforts to achieve defined objectives and key results. 

  • Work with third party software vendors as the team builds mobile tools and offerings. 

  • Operate within the DevOps model, helping troubleshoot technical issues and prioritizing defect fixes and small enhancements among larger feature efforts.

  • Partner closely with IT architects and technical leads to develop solutions that deliver customer value quickly while reducing ongoing operational costs. 

  • Lead ongoing demonstrations of new software to update stakeholders and team members on new features and functionality. 

  • As needed, partner with other business units to write and accept user stories, ensuring technical and business requirements are met.

  • Focus on outcomes—identifying key metrics and continuously measuring and iterating to improve the product.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience/training 

  • Understanding of mobile app technology frameworks and differences between Android and iOS platforms 

  • Understanding of how American’s systems interact with each other (i.e. Sabre, ITA, eTDS, etc.)

  • 3 years relevant work experience, preferably in e-commerce

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field

  • Experience with selecting and implementing 3rd party software development kits to enhance app offerings and tools 

  • Experience using Agile and other SDLC techniques to develop and deliver software 

  • Experience working in a product model, focused on outcomes to continuously improve the customer experience 

  • Mobile and travel/airline experience

Skills, Licenses and Certifications 

  • Understanding of the latest mobile technologies and how those tools can be leveraged to drive customer engagement 

  • Proven track record in delivering products that generate substantial value 

  • High level of intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity 

  • Well organized, able to multi task, able to prioritize with minimal direction 

  • Communication skills—providing transparency, setting expectations and reporting on results 

  • Emphasis on interpersonal skills that create an environment of trust and encourage partnership within the team and across product teams

Additional Details:

  • Candidate will be working onsite Tuesday-Thursdays; virtual Mondays/Fridays.
  • Candidate will be working at both Skyview 7 & 8; onsite interviews will be at Skyview 8.
  • There will be 2 round interviews, first one is virtual and the second onsite.
  • Supplier may need to supply a supplier laptop.
  • This assignment is projected to end in December 2027.
  • There is an opportunity to convert.
