Insurance has centralized DevOps responsibility for all of Insurance IT to improve productivity and efficiency. The Lead DevOps engineer will be a key investment towards that productivity gain and to improve DevOps maturity overall. The Lead engineer will enable Insurance IT expedite access remediation, certified template migration, and improving standards that reduce risk, improve standards, and enhance software quality overall.

The Lead DevOps engineer will bring in industry best-practices, collaborate with Enterprise DevOps and Engineering teams to mature DevOps platform, improve security posture, and reduce lead time for key deliverables. DevOps engineers in Insurance IT are skilled at key cloud and automation technologies to improve productivity and developer experience to grow platform engineering at Humana.


The Lead DevOps Engineer enables the automation of software code deployment by eliminating functional silos existing between development and production. Promotes flexible collaboration and communication between development, security, compliance, testing, monitoring and production teams. Optimizes the release process by leading teams to identify gaps and eliminate barriers to enable increased frequency of accurate code deployment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, or an equivalent technical field
  • 5+ years’ experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI to automate building, testing, and deploying applications
  • Proficiency using version control systems (Git, Github etc.) and branching strategies (e.g., GitFlow)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Shell scripting, or Ruby, and understanding of programming languages such as Java, dot Net, JavaScript, or Go for automation and tool development
  • Prior experience fostering a culture of collaboration between development and operations teams to promote transparency, shared responsibility, and streamlined processes, resulting in faster change lead times
  • 3+ years’ experience implementing automation throughout the software delivery pipeline. Build partnership with quality engineering and security to automate testing, solidify security posture, and grow platform engineering with continuous integration, and deployment automation to reduce manual effort and accelerate the delivery of changes.
  • Familiarity with major cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, including services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, or Azure DevOps.
  • Possess 10+ years of progressive experience leading continuous improvement efforts, evaluating existing systems and implementing process improvements.
  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Experience with Docker for creating, deploying, and managing containers, and Kubernetes for container orchestration.
  • Proficiency with tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible to automate the provisioning and management of infrastructure.
  • Ability to set up and manage monitoring and logging solutions like Prometheus, ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or Splunk for proactive issue detection and troubleshooting.
  • Facilitating engineering teams to adopt microservices architecture to develop, deploy, and update individual services independently, enabling faster and more frequent releases
  • Prior experience with Monitoring application and infrastructure performance to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the deployment process and optimize for faster lead times

  • Work-At-Home Requirements:

    • WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
    • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.  
    • Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
    • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$115,300 - $158,600 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
