Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning.

The Huawei Automotive Electric Control Technology Laboratory will play an important role in the Huawei Digital Power Business Unit in the advanced electric drive control, architectural development, design and strategic engineering of automotive applications such as drivetrain, DC-AC inverter and fusion driving component, advanced AI/cloud technology, etc. As an employee you will be part of the HUAWEI Automotive R&D Competence Center in Nuremberg.

Senior/Principal Engineer – Electromagnetic & Actuator (m/f/d)

Your mission

  • System Concept & Architecture Selection: Lead the architecture design, feasibility assessment, and key parameter selection for micro/small mechatronic actuators (e.g., magnetorheological (MR) dampers, micro-electromagnetic coils, or low-power motor assemblies).

  • Core Component Design & Simulation: Perform or guide preliminary calculations and simulations (electromagnetic, magnetic circuit, mechanical structure, and damping characteristics) to establish system specifications.

  • University & Research Collaboration: Establish and maintain partnerships with European universities and research institutes; drive joint R&D, research projects, and technology transfer to build a localized innovation ecosystem.

  • External Resource & Supplier Management: Identify and interface with European local and global prototyping vendors, research institutions, or Tier suppliers; evaluate technical proposals and manage component customization and procurement.

  • Prototype Fabrication & Integration: Drive the end-to-end prototype build from initial concept to functional samples (A/B samples), tackling engineering challenges in assembly, sealing, integration, and testing.

  • Testing, Validation & Design Iteration: Develop test plans for actuator systems, supervise bench testing and performance evaluation, and drive iterative design improvements based on test results to meet performance and reliability targets.

Your areas of expertise

  • Education: Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related discipline.

  • Core Technical Background: Hands-on R&D design experience in at least one relevant domain: mechatronic actuators, low-power motors (BLDC/DC), electromagnetic coils, or fluid/damping systems (e.g., MR dampers, active shock absorbers).

  • Prototyping & Delivery Experience: Proven track record in full-cycle "Design–Prototype–Test" delivery, with solid knowledge of rapid prototyping, precision machining, electromagnetic assembly, and materials processing.

  • External Collaboration & Execution: Strong resource integration skills, with the ability to independently manage collaborative R&D projects with universities, research institutes, and external suppliers to ensure milestone delivery.

  • Language & Soft Skills: Professional working proficiency in English for daily communication and technical exchange; strong cross-cultural communication abilities and a collaborative mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with actuator and mechatronic supply chains and manufacturing/machining networks in both Europe and China, with the ability to leverage bilateral resources effectively.

  • Hands-on experience with magnetorheological (MR) damping technology, smart suspension systems, or precision-controlled actuation systems.

  • Proficiency in electromagnetic simulation software or CAD platforms.
