Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and visionary executive to lead the development and execution of the data strategy for our data platform that collects data from millions of products and applications. The Data Strategy executive will be responsible for defining the strategy for all aspects of data governance, data architecture, analytics, and data-driven decision-making. This role will ensure that data is leveraged as a strategic asset to drive business growth, improve operational efficiencies, and deliver actionable insights across the organization. The Data Strategy executive will work closely with senior leadership to align data initiatives with business objectives and promote a data-driven culture throughout our Technology and Innovation Organization and across the company. This role will focus on identifying and filling gaps in our current data strategy as well as up leveling the current data engineering and insights generation strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Data Strategy Development:
    Lead the assessment and upleveling of our overall data strategy, ensuring it aligns with business goals and objectives. Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of data initiatives and ensure they drive business value.
  • Data Governance & Compliance:
    Establish and enforce data governance frameworks, ensuring data quality, security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, EU Data Act).
  • Data Architecture & Infrastructure:
    Define the strategy to ensure our data platform is scalable, secure, and has efficient data architecture that enables effective data storage, processing, and analysis. Ensure integration and data sharing across data systems and alignment with the company’s technology infrastructure.
  • Advanced Analytics & Insights:
    Define and drive the strategy for advanced data analytics techniques with an emphasis on AI, machine learning, and predictive analytics. Work with the data engineering teams and business units to implement the strategy that produces data models and insights that inform key business decisions and optimize operations.
  • Collaboration & Data Accessibility:
    Include in the strategy the approach to foster a culture of data democratization by making data accessible to decision-makers across all departments. Promote the use of self-service tools for non-technical users and ensure effective collaboration among data stakeholders.
  • Data Culture & Literacy:
    Champion data literacy and empower teams across the organization to use data in their daily work. Lead training initiatives to build data capabilities and ensure leadership and staff are equipped to interpret and use data insights.
  • Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement:
    Ensure the strategy includes elements and KPIs for robust monitoring systems to track the success of the data strategy. Regularly review the effectiveness of data initiatives, adjust strategies as needed, and work with the engineering leaders to drive continuous improvement.
  • Risk Management & Ethics:
    Identify potential risks related to data security, privacy, and ethical concerns, and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure ethical data practices are followed, including responsible AI usage and eliminating data bias.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Experience:
    10+ years of experience in data management, analytics, and governance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (e.g., CDO, VP of Data, Head of Analytics, etc.). Experience in driving data strategy within a large organization is essential.
  • Leadership:
    Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving change within organizations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with executives, technical teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Technical Expertise:
    Extensive knowledge of data architecture, cloud computing, data integration, machine learning, and analytics tools. Familiarity with data governance frameworks, security standards, and compliance regulations.
  • Analytical Mindset:
    Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to translate complex data into clear, actionable business insights.
  • Business Acumen:
    Demonstrated ability to align data initiatives with organizational goals and deliver tangible business outcomes. Ability to communicate data-driven strategies to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Change Management:
    Experience in driving cultural transformation towards a data-driven organization. Ability to influence senior leadership and instill data literacy throughout the company.
  • Growth Mindset
    The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, embracing continuous learning, adaptability, and innovation while fostering a culture of experimentation and resilience within the data team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with cloud and big data technologies (e.g., AWS, Databricks).
  • Expertise in business intelligence and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with AI/ML technologies and platforms.
  • Understanding of data privacy laws and ethical AI practices.

The base pay range for this role is $183,650 to $275,450 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to US candidates only).  Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
