New Product Procurement Engineer

Description -

As a New Product Introduction (NPI) engineer with the Print Procurement and Strategic Commodity (PPSC) team you will be responsible for the successful launch of new inkjet supplies into a global market. You will work closely with the product development, manufacturing, quality, and other worldwide teams to ensure that the new products meet the customer requirements, quality standards, and business objectives. You will also coordinate the testing, validation, and certification of the new components and provide technical support and training to the internal and external stakeholders (suppliers). You should possess good communication and personal skills to deal with conflict when component issues arise internally or with external suppliers. You should be able to apply sound engineering principles to solve common and complex component issues within established guidelines and recommend appropriate alternatives. You may be required to act as part of a team or a project leader providing direction to engineering team activities, facilitate data validation, and the team decision making process. You should be able to work independently to identify and select solutions to potential manufacturing and supplier issues dealing with design, qualification, capacity, and quality. May seek advice in order to make decisions on complex engineering and business issues from senior engineers and management. Knowledge of sound design principles and standard manufacturing process for various components used in ink supply manufacturing. (injection molded plastic, blow molded plastics, sheet metal, die cast, ceramics, foams, films, filters, elastomers)

Responsibilities:

  • Provides DFM and feedback for designed engineering solutions for mechanical and thermal hardware, electronics enclosures, and production tooling based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements parameters, test plans, and quality systems for new and existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, and reliability.
  • Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners (suppliers) regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
  • May lead a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners (suppliers) to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for moderately- complex products.
  • Work within defined schedules as outlined by project management and meet the requirements without red flag issues.
  • Report issues upwards to management with well thought out and sound solutions to issues that may arise.
  • Represents PPSC internally and externally with engineering solutions and DFM for various components in supplies development.
  • Works with a team of engineers to develop products and solutions for next generation microfluidic technology.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Typically 4-6 years experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Use PTC/Creo or other 3D CAD software as a mechanical design tool.
  • Use Autodesk Moldflow or other DFM software to provide feedback to design and manufacturing teams.
  • Use Microsoft suite of office tools to communicate and present ideas efficiently.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong understanding and experience in general manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to understand design of sheet metal, elastomer, and plastic parts and understanding of associated production tooling and processes.
  • Understand Geometric Tolerancing, associated metrology methods, review and present FAI's and capability studies associated with qualification of components. Training is offered.
  • Ability to develop sound quality control plans and implement with suppliers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
