As a subject matter expert, the engineer drives end-to-end connectivity solutions, working across hardware interfaces, firmware, and networking layers to ensure robust, secure, and high-performance device connectivity in complex real-world environments.

Responsibilities

- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of low-level firmware and drivers that interface with connectivity chipsets (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC).

- Own and drive integration of connectivity subsystems using hardware interfaces such as:

  • SDIO, USB, UART, I2C, SPI

- Architect and optimize firmware components responsible for:

  • Wireless module bring-up, initialization, and configuration
  • Power management and system-level coordination with platform firmware

· Provide deep technical leadership in integration of third-party connectivity modules, including vendor driver stacks and SDKs.

System & Cross-Layer Ownership

- Lead debugging and root cause analysis across the full networking stack:

  • Physical layer through application-layer protocols

- Drive resolution of complex, cross-layer issues involving:

  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and IP networking interactions
  • Client device interoperability and router ecosystem behavior

- Analyze and troubleshoot packet flows including:

  • Ethernet and Wi-Fi framing
  • MAC layer behavior and MAC address handling
  • IPv4/IPv6 addressing, routing, and packet delivery
  • Multicast and unicast communication behavior

Protocols & Security Leadership

- Provide subject matter expertise in:

  • IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi), Bluetooth (BLE), Wi-Fi Direct (P2P), Wi-Fi Aware (NAN)

- Lead implementation and integration of security protocols, including:

  • WPA3, 802.1X (EAP), TLS/SSL

- Drive compliance and interoperability across standards bodies (e.g., Wi-Fi Alliance, Bluetooth SIG)

Diagnostics, Reliability, and Field Excellence

- Define and drive advanced logging, telemetry, and diagnostics strategies to enable efficient field issue triage and root cause analysis.

- Lead investigations of customer-reported connectivity issues, including:

  • Reproduction, root cause analysis, and resolution across firmware and network layers

- Establish best practices for connectivity reliability, self-healing, and performance optimization

Technical Leadership & Influence

- Act as the connectivity firmware domain expert across programs and organizations

- Lead or significantly influence architecture decisions for new platforms and connectivity features

- Drive alignment with cross-functional teams:

  • SoC vendors, module vendors, platform firmware teams, OS/client teams

- Mentor engineers and elevate team capability in connectivity firmware development

- Contribute to long-term strategy and innovation in printer connectivity

Education & Experience

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline

- Typically 5–10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, with deep expertise in connectivity and networking

- Proven experience leading technically complex firmware projects involving hardware-software integration

- Proven ability to lead remote collaboration and drive cross-geographical teamwork across across different time zones, including U.S. Pacific Time and India

- Flexibility to support work across global time zones and travel occasionally as required.
