Job Summary

The IT Enterprise Architecture team at HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) is seeking a Sr. Technical Data Governance Engineer to holistically support HOOPP's Enterprise Data Program. 

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Enterprise Data Platform Operations, you will help design and deliver a strong data governance framework that supports trusted, well‑managed data across HOOPP’s cloud data ecosystem. The Sr. Technical Data Governance Engineer will ensure high standards of data quality, integrity, security, and regulatory compliance across a modern cloud data ecosystem leveraging AWS SageMaker, Atlan, and Snowflake.

The Enterprise Data Platform team is focused on delivering true business value in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. They value innovative solutions, team collaboration and delivery.

What you will do:

  • Lead the development and implementation of enterprise technical data governance strategy, policies, and standards

  • Establish clear data ownership and stewardship models, with strong data quality, lineage, and accountability across domains

  • Configure and optimize Atlan for data cataloging, lineage, and business glossary management

  • Define and operationalize data quality frameworks, including rules, monitoring, and issue remediation

  • Setup and Configure Data Domains, Projects, and Assets within AWS SageMaker

  • Govern data pipelines and machine learning workflows within AWS SageMaker, ensuring traceability and model data integrity

  • Implement and oversee data classification, access controls, and security policies within Snowflake and AWS

  • Partner with investment, risk, and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, OSC, GDPR where applicable)

  • Support audit, regulatory reporting, and data control documentation

  • Support and coach data owners and stewards, helping build a strong data governance culture.

Who you are: 

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data architecture roles

  • Proven experience within investment management, asset management, or capital markets domain is an asset.

  • Hands-on expertise with:

    • AWS SageMaker (ML lifecycle governance, feature data management)

    • Atlan (data catalog, lineage, metadata management)

    • Snowflake (data security, role-based access control, governance features)

  • Strong understanding of financial data domains (e.g., positions, transactions, market data, reference data).  Experience with ESG, risk analytics, or performance measurement data is an asset.

  • Deep knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK)

  • Experience implementing data quality and data control frameworks

  • Exposure to data mesh or domain-oriented data ownership models

  • Experience with data lineage and controls for regulatory reporting is an asset. 

  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in financial services

 

The expected annual base salary range for this role is: $120,000 - $160,000 CAD

 

The actual base salary offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
