Intern Bachelors - Software Engineering (QA Automation) (1-year full-time contract)

Job Description 

We are looking for a motivated and technically curious QA Automation Intern to join our QA team within SME / Connected Utilities, Smart Metering Water. 

This internship provides hands-on experience in software quality assurance and test automation for smart metering solutions. The ideal candidate has a good foundation in Python programming, an interest in automation, and basic knowledge of SQL and PostgreSQL. 

We are looking for someone eager to learn, experiment, investigate problems, and contribute to improving our automated testing capabilities. 

 

Responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python. 
• Execute automated and manual tests and analyze the results. 
• Help identify, reproduce, and document software defects. 
• Use SQL and PostgreSQL to prepare, query, and validate test data. 
• Contribute to improving the team’s test automation framework and coverage. 
• Participate in functional, integration, and regression testing. 
• Translate software requirements into effective test scenarios and test cases. 
• Investigate test failures using logs, application data, and other diagnostic information. 
• Collaborate with QA and software development engineers. 
• Document test cases, test results, and technical findings. 

 

Required Skills 

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Automation, Electronics, or a related technical field. 
• Good programming fundamentals, particularly Python. 
• Interest in software testing and test automation. 
• Basic understanding of relational databases. 
• Basic SQL skills and familiarity with PostgreSQL or a similar database. 
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills. 
• Willingness to learn and explore new technologies. 
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Romanian 
• Ability to work effectively as part of an engineering team. 

 

Nice to Have 

Exposure through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships to any of the following would be an advantage: 

• Linux, particularly command-line usage. 
• Docker and containerized applications. 
• Kubernetes fundamentals. 
• Basic networking concepts, including TCP/IP, ports, DNS, and HTTP/HTTPS. 
• Python testing frameworks such as PyTest. 
• REST APIs and API testing. 
• Git and source control. 
• Basic CI/CD concepts. 

 

What You Will Learn 

• Build maintainable Python-based test automation. 
• Test software used in Smart Metering Water solutions. 
• Work with PostgreSQL and SQL for test-data validation. 
• Debug applications and analyze test failures. 
• Work with technologies such as Linux, Docker, and Kubernetes. 
• Understand professional software QA and validation processes. 
• Collaborate with experienced engineers on real-world products.

We do not expect an intern to know everything from day one. We are looking for someone who enjoys programming, is curious about how complex software systems work, likes investigating problems, and wants to develop strong QA automation skills. 

Strong Python fundamentals, a problem-solving mindset, and the motivation to learn are more important than previous professional experience.
